I absolutely love this aircraft, which is a very close second to the SR-71 Blackbird. Seen a couple of times at the Museum of the US Air Force in Dayton. Definitely an aircraft before its time and its a shame only one remains.

A well-along start. That is a bit monstrous! Large enough to chop wood. I have a Lindberg version in my to-build-some-fine-day pile that is 1:172 so it's about 11". That I can fit on a desk or shelf. That giant of yours can be used *as* a shelf!

One of the coolest aircraft that never made production. Canada had a jet that was pretty revolutionary, that was canceled. A bit of a sore spot for them, as well. Avro Arrow CF-105. Aurora made a kit.

I JUST picked this kit up, albeit the Italeri version. I'm intimidated by the size of the kit, but also very excited to see how it turns out for you! I know that Brengun models has a photo-etch set (hard to find) as well as brass nozzles/burner cans and metal landing gear could really spruce up the kit. Going to be sourcing those before I take on this challenge, though another KZbinr's build video confirmed my worst suspicions; the photo etch set is not very good/doesn't fit well and may not be worth it. I too was playing with the idea of potentially modifying the wing struts to make the tailing edges articulate, but that may be a stretch... Please continue this build process as I am dying to see how this turns out for you!

Just put it on a little base, so you can display it with the wing tips down. Would look awesome. 👍🏻

I was going to to suggest, if you want the wing tips slanted without hitting the ground, maybe you could get some thin styrene or aluminum tubing and extend the shock struts(or whatever they’re called) about 1/4” or so, and then slip it right over the struts/posts of the landing gear and epoxy them in with some Z-POXY 5-MINUTE. I have done this with airplane kits sometimes. I have also used the real thick parts of the parts sprue, cut it to the height I need, epoxy it into the landing gear bay, drill a slight hole in the piece of sprue and use that new hole for the landing gear, voila, you’re all set. Or, you can use a styrene melting chemical or heat to bend the tongue-inserts on the wing tips to the desired angles, so they don’t touch the ground. One word of advise to anyone building jet fighter kits; if you plan on building it with gear out, so you can display it on shelf, make sure to epoxy some heavier fishing weights or some nuts and bolts inside the nose, as a lot of kits have a heavier tail section and when complete, you will try to sit it on a shelf and it will fall backwards and do an pop-a-wheelie and the nose will never sit on the ground. So, throw some weight in the nose before putting it together. That kits going to look nice Boyd. Cheers

I have the Italieri 1/72 XB-70 to build, but I'm worried that the fitting of the parts aren't as good as this AMT kit. Anyone know if this is the case? I'm looking forward to more episodes, so I may learn some tips on any problems I will face. 👍🏻
@TrekWorks3 жыл бұрын
I've watched videos of that kit and it looks about the same as far as the fit goes. It should be fine. The fit is good on this kit but if you want it to look extra nice, the seams do need to be filled in. It takes a fair amount of putty because of the huge size.
@randalscott72243 жыл бұрын
The Italeri kit is the AMT kit reboxed so all the parts are identical, and presumably the fit issues. Italeri also reboxed the AMT "Flying Wing" bombers, the YB-35 and YB-49, both very cool looking aircraft.

Thanks Boyd! Can I ask how you apply the perfect plastic putty (PPP) with that curved syringe please....sounds like a great tip. However my PPP has quite a thick consistency so how do you get it inside the syringe? Thanks in anticipation!
@TrekWorks3 жыл бұрын
I put the putty in a small dixie cup and then thin it with water until it's just thin enough that the syringe will draw it in. To clean the syringe, push out all of the putty and then dip it in a clean cup of water and draw in and push out a few times until the putty is gone. Works like a charm :)
