If I'm the Spurs, I don't want to settle for being a .500 team already. Sure, it feels good knowing I'll likely be even better next season, but I could effectively "double" my progression by staying in the lottery and securing a top-5 pick, in addition to the internal development of my young core. So, I'd prefer to strategically drop some games here and there-just enough to finish among the bottom 10 in the standings and get a shot at the lottery. A prospect like Flagg or Harper could transform me into a premier destination for the next decade when paired with Wemby. Otherwise, what's the alternative? Signing a marquee free agent or trading for someone like De'Aaron Fox? That approach won't get me over the hump because I could still do that later and land a talent like Cooper now. I don't just want to contend if I have Wemby-I want to dominate for 5 to 10 years. I want to bring the dynasty back. At least, that's how I see it. Who knows what their front office is thinking, though.

We’re more structured this year but yeah next year is where it started we have 2 first round picks this year

You ain't getting Cooper without historic luck. The worst team in the league only has a 14% chance to get Cooper. So that means you want to tank some more games this season for like the 11th pick in the draft instead of the 15th pick in the draft.

Yes but you also can't build a team around losing all the time and then just flip the switch. Wemby wants a strong Spurs, and they don't need the 5th pick in the draft to get a dime to fit around Wemby. They have picks from other guys, they can trade picks and swaps they have of other teams. They have a ton of young talent much of it isn't even close to their mid level much less their prime. The team is already around him, they just need a good couple of role players that can make a difference and they will be good. Remember most of the years the Spurs won with just Duncan as an All Star. Also Giannis and Joker won titles with one star, Boston had arguably a no star system that was super balanced. Dynasties aren't about stars they are about building together

If the Spurs even get a top 3 pick the NBA will have to admit that the lottery is rigged.

Someone remind Jakoby that for the most part, only BAD teams get a shot at the top of the lottery and a chance to draft generational players. The exceptions are far and few: Atlanta last year in a bad draft, the Griz after injuries, the Spurs when they drafted Tim Duncan. Of course the Spurs aren't ready yet, it's only Wemby's 2nd year and they haven't even begun to make the moves they could make to build out Wemby's squad and in terms of assets, they're one of maybe 3 teams that can swing a deal for a superstar. Verno is right on the money here... the Spurs made the Paul/Barnes moves to add assets and to cap their ceiling so they could hoard a little more. Next summer, that likely ends and they go about getting Wemby his co-star.

Coach Johnson needed to take Vassell out and put Castle on Bridges down the stretch. Poor coaching
@matthewdavis4393Күн бұрын
The thing no one talks about with Bridges is that he's averaging an insanely low 0.9 FTA, which is bottom 2nd percentile among the top 100 scorers in the league and much worse than any of his role player years on the Suns. That's Duncan Robinson / Buddy Hield level of contact aversion. The midrange fadeaways have been on this month but it's not sustainable to hit them at this efficiency and it's why he still only has one other 30-point game this season; he's scared of the contact which comes with the highest-percentage shots in the paint. He was averaging 6.6 FTA those two months when he basically averaged 30 on the Nets.

You are on the money, however I will trade Mikal being less physical while attacking this season if it means he is healthy deep into the playoffs. Even with Mikal not putting the same pressure on the rim as guys like JB Kat even Josh, the Knicks still have one of the best offense in the league. Early in the season when the shot wasn't falling I was wishing he would play more physical but this might be the secret sauce to why Mikal is the NBA's ironman. Hopefully he is just picking his spots because he is definitely capable.
