Jay Tee my thoughts too...why not use evergreen branches for the sides..
@giammira
@giammira 9 жыл бұрын
+Jay Tee Yes a really nice handwork and job, useful protection of the fire and the shelter entrance thanks to the outer walls, but... way too much work for a temporary shelter, even for a week long one, especially in the real wilderness if you really need to camp and it's not just for sport. Saving energy and time is paramount. If you are going to stay any less than 3 nights and it's not just for fun, I reckon it's enough filling horizontally between those upright branches by using spruces and light branches that you can break easily and fast by hand: they are not going to fly away and the target of breaking the wind and protecting is reached. I'd worry much more about possible rain, especially with wind changing direction and blowing towards the opening of the shelter from above the outer wall. For protection I'd build some extension of the roof or a mere overhang of a foot or two, pointing out and down towards the fire, maybe the same wood of the roof or a waterproof blanket stripe....

Dax, thanks for watching over Lilly on her trips in the woods. There is still time for you to get her a nice Christmas present. You might be thinking she would like a big wool blanket, or a sharp bushcraft knife, or a new rifle, or a new poncho, or even a shiny new canteen cup. Maybe, Dax, the best Christmas gift for Lilly would be to give her a great big hug and tell her how much you love going with her on wilderness outings. Lilly will smile and hug you back. You are a lucky dog, Dax. Merry Christmas.

Your shelter is starting to look very cozy. I especially like that you are showing how it is possible to gradually build a nice shelter without having to work all the time on it. Each step of the process is finished within a day without having to leave any part looking unfinished over night. How many days have you worked on it so far? From the videos it looked like about 4 weekends.

Your camp is really taking shape Lilly. You have done a meticulous job with each component of your shelter and it really shows. You might be a fair pretty woman but you are no wimp. When using as a hammer, grab that hatchet near the end of the handle. The longer lever allows the same effort to generate a lot more power. Just use less force when starting it. You will still have fine control. It is more efficient and ultimately safer. Give it a try. Great vids. Enjoy very much.

Excellent job on the walls. If you would hold your axe at the end of the handle, you would have greater control, more powerful blows, and much less stress on your hand, wrist, and arm.
