The "hardcore" part of me who loves bushcraft videos is like "using nails? Really?" But it's actually something I never see Bushcrafters do, and it makes a ton of sense (and doesn't take up much space at all). You probably should have considered placing the tarp along the back of the dugout, preventing moisture from seeping into the ground, dampening the back wall of the dugout... Last thing you want is moisture getting in through the ground. You could have lined the inside with wood as well to try to help with that a bit more.
