David Gooding explains the theory behind "Weir Fields" and how they can stabilize river banks. I went back 2 years later with Jack Minard Pres of the Tsolum River Society and the weir was working perfectly.
Someone asked for a 11 year update. I am unable to get to the river but what I can tell you is that it is working. Just upstream from the weir is a house right above the river and a road if the weir was not working that house and section of road would be gone.

Ya it is a lovely river. I'm only 5 min away walking. Where we live upstream of this is a great swimming hole.

Basic fact the government can not run a business and can and will f up any project. Why not see what is required and give the nonprofit the money and keep an eye on them but let them run it until you see some misuse. This was a great flick. More please as like most we are all interesting in our country.

Check my web site where I have my docs organized. There is a series of shorts profiling the Tsolum River Restoration Society. Cheers! wwwvancouverislandchronicles.com

Thanks for responding! I am glad its working but can't help feeling that enabling housing to be built closer to the rivers and creeks is not the desired outcome from these types of interventions.

Tell Jack to make the weirs far apart so there big ponds for fish maybe take and dredge area so it could be a fake lake rowing (racing 4 --8 boat races like Olympic)venue with trout farm salmon sponging ??fish for people.... watch you tube video on weir in British creek to make small lake/pond ...they use a barrel/pipe 24 inch one the bottom for fish travel and water and the wall on top or few feet above bottom, mean need grate?? with 6"/8" net like grid so person could not go through..LOL ,,, don't forget Wolf Lake Dam....... and all the slump in it they should digg out the lake and pit mine it deeper and look a feed creek of the Platue valley...and Comox lake stump removal to the bay and harbor dredge ....
