0:33 I learn a lot from a teacher type feller that wears nothin' but Hard Rock Cafe T-shirts, who's been collecting them from all over the world. His nickname's the Dutch Uncle. His YT real name is John Kostik. If you have an eye or ear for such recipes... then Bon Appétit Laid some oval river rock that was so dense that it was like putting the mortar in a glass jar with the lid on it. At 1st try to get the wall chest high, thru using many wall ties, rock chip wedges, and dusting behind the wall with dry mortar mix, before going on over to the next run. I gambled on one more rock too many. All mornings work fell like cascading footballs. Solution was to lay no higher than 2' courses around the house each day. Learned as well that on a random non level course setting of stone, that no 2 rock layers lay them with the exact same pattern or joint widths. Solution was to split the rock veneer side runs between me and my partner. A much coarser grade of almost gravel sand helps a lot too. "The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing." -Socrates

Nice bit of stonework .Down here in cornwall we build with a lot of granite. We use a dryer mix because the stone is a lot bigger some quion stones can be 400 lb + . We keep the joints raked back and point up at a later date. Keep up the good work i am a new subscriber.👍👍👍

@@shaunthompson8943 hi best way is to keep the joints thin approx 10mm. Point the joints when dried out a bit and brush them in with a brush ie a paintbrush about 1and a half inches. Hope this will help you. I am from hayle so don't get use this stone very often normally work with granite.

Ginger in Ireland we usually give the joints a light rub of a wire brush the next morning
@GingerDust69

I’ve taken your advice on board and brush it this morning with a stiff brush as I don’t have a wire brush. Thanks for the tip

Use a churn brush to brush of the joints/stonework,not so harsh as a wire brush,especailly if joints are soft at end of day/following day.

I need a haircut so bad. I haven’t done many castles this year usually do 20 over the weekends this time of year. So I will probably upload more this summer as I have abit more time as all my events have been cancelled. Stonework is hard especially when there’s no room to move on this job I’m on.
