An incredible labour of love and an unimaginable attention to detail. I am thrilled with your presentation as you have provided me with some brilliant ideas for future projects, for instance, I have always raised the masts as one unit and then fumbled with the rigging and spars. You raise the same in steps, which I now believe was done by the original shipwrights! Perhaps, by your example we model shipwrights should follow suit! Thanks for the tip(s), keep up your good work and I look forward to your next project.

That is really a work of art sir. USS Constitution nicknamed "old Ironside." Built in the 1790's???. She is the oldest commissioned Frigate warship still active in the USN.

Astonished by your work. I am currently building one of these but from Mamoli. I wanted to make Her at full sail and I only could find Mamoli that actually sold a sail set for the kit.I am amazed with the quality of your work. Bravo sir, great stuff. If i may ask, did the copper sheathing for the hull come with the kit? Looks incredible.

I got to tour the real Constitution when in Boston on business in 1998. I read where USS Constitution cost $300,000 to build - in 1790s dollars 😮
@Mark-ft7nw2 жыл бұрын
What did you use for the copper plating? I have an old constitution set but the copper plates they want you to use are blue woodchips I assume help the hull look like old copper? I was thinking about using the copper strip tape from model shops online but idk which is best.
@carolbergmark11642 жыл бұрын
I used copper strip tape. Pinwheel punch to add rivets.
@DmakAttack4 жыл бұрын
I drive by the Constitution everyday going to work. I do service work at the Marine barracks occasionally and got a personal tour from the Captain... an incredible experience. Many people don’t realize, Old Ironsides is an active United States Navy ship. And let there be NO DOUBT in your minds,,, if the Captain got orders, he would load up his sailors, load up his Marines, load up his cannon balls (oh ya, they have crates full of them and those guns Absolutely Fire) and would go to War.. I’m not even kidding 🤘🏻🇺🇸
@randyfeigel9014 жыл бұрын
looks like a 1/96 scale ( 1/8 ) ft scale - wood is definitly better than plastic as plastic is MUCH to flimsy at this scale

I am looking for some parts for medium 36" over all the canon and the 1/4 inch lid to covers the side canon port. Do you have any source to get such?
@TrumpCard54 Жыл бұрын
This was my second model ship - first large one with all the rigging. After 3 more it was no longer challenging - so I lost interest. I found a kit made by Bluejacket Ship Crafters that looks like it might present a challenge, Schooner America. It is a true plank-on-frame construction, just like the real ship builders. No laser cut plywood bulkheads. I'll need to purchase a small power scrolling saw to produce all the pieces - but at least I'll be building something again.

beautifull. now put on a crew made from red gel. put it adrift. a platoon of air rifles on the shoreline. some floating high def camera,s and yell fire. also maybe a ammo storage that explodes. and yes i know i have a big imagination. ill build myself one and probably change my mind after all that work. altough i have to make it rc cause i want to sail it thanks for the video i liked it very much

Im not joking but will this thing float? I want a scale rc boat for my new pool but theyre expensive. So i was thinking to just build this and add electronics. But will it float?
@carolbergmark11648 жыл бұрын
+Co Cobiispo Of course it will float - it's made out of wood. For rc it would need to be water sealed and balast added to keep it upright. Buying a scale rc boat would probably be cheaper - no trial and error involved.
@user-lv7ph7hs7l7 жыл бұрын
Yeah if you don´t mind potentially ruining 100s of hours of work, you could seal it. It will tip´over so you´d need to add weights in the bottom. Connecting the rudder to a servo shouldn´t be much of a problem and there is plenty of space for batteries. The problem would be the weights, but you can cut a hole through the decks so you can access the lower parts to add and remove weights. No reason it couldn´t work, I used to have a modern type RC sailboat with no engines and it worked great. But it was light with a large sail. A ship like that wouldn´t be racing around.

although large i have found 1/4 in per foot ( 1/48 scale ) is a large model is necessary out of wood to be not so flimsy in masts and spars so as no so easy to bend out of shape and pieces not so small to work with
