I remember getting shouted at by old school rock climbers when I was learning for standing on ropes and allowing metal work to clatter onto a hard surface. Thanks for the videos. 👍

I’ve had many different trainers tell me different lengths for barrel knot tails. 10x the rope diameter is a handy guide.

At one point in My Career I was fortunate enough to do some Adventure Training with the Australian Army. We did Abseiling. The Students (Officers and Enlisted) were supplied with lengths of Seatbelt Webbing to wrap about themselves as Harnesses valued at $16 each (Tax included). The Army Instructor had a Basic Climbers Sit Harness valued at $120 (tax included). At the time I was a Qualified Cliff Rescue Instructor with an Emergency Service Organisation and My Full Body Harness was valued at $360 (Tax Exempt).

This mess is why I prefer a work harness with a bridge. The bridge solves all those problems and is neater ie cleaner. That and I learned from arborists, haha
@jjj87484

The whole time I was watching this all I could think was "they use D rings? Ouch." The bridge distributes weight so much better. Plus you get added degrees of motion. Better mechanical advantage.

Fun fact! what you call an overhand knot, is effectively a water knot, which is the only rated knot for webbing!

Thanks for the video. Just wondered, do you ever use the loop between your cows tail? Any reasons you would split the rope first?

Are there any pros and cons using a single length of rope for all three cow tails vs three separate lengths, one for each tail?
@afsarmstrongfiresafety7460
@afsarmstrongfiresafety7460 Жыл бұрын
A single length creates two long tails and a short tail, with only two knots in the ventral D-ring.

making my one short and to long cows tails using the overhand knots. why cannot i just double over my rope and pass 50 cm of folded bight through my dlink and then tie a double overhand knot involving the to tailends and the fold over bight of rope ???

At 2:34 you make a mistake with this harness (I've got the same). According to my experiences the best is with the leftover waistbelt is to put it under the front stretchy ring, after to put it under the side d-ring and after the back stretchy ring. The second best is to just let it as it is. But if you dont put the leftover waistbelt under the front stretchy ring, only the back, the waist buckle will losen in the first 10 minutes of work.

You simply cannot build a decent and proper Rope Access kit with Pretzl's garbage products. There are several fine companies that offer excellent Rope Access Equipment, though. haha!
@elliottheap8969
@elliottheap8969 3 жыл бұрын
Brian warshow who’s Pretzl, lol I wouldn’t trust my life on a company with the name of a pastry. I mean Petzl is a fine company with really decent products, but you can’t just use 1 company with work at night as different company’s have different ways of making gear.
@StaggerLee68
@StaggerLee68 3 жыл бұрын
@@elliottheap8969 Exactly, MacPretzl has been trying to monopolize the gear-and now training facet- of industrial rope access certification programs for a long time. Their aim is to own all rope access programs with their gear as the only option. Rope Techs and Rope Access training was not built on one company's equipment in mind and it does a disservice to Rope Access in general to do so. The ASAP is the perfect example of a Petzl product harming the industry. Normally it's just techs complaining of their shit gear while working. ha. I've replaced all of my kit, at my cost, with good gear from other companies for a reason, I need to work safely and efficiently, MacPetzl just doesn't cut it.

@@bencebolvari1973 Sure! Edelrid, Black Diamond, CAMP, Wild Country and Kong all offer good durable gear. Find what feels good in your hand and build your kit so each piece serves it's function to your liking. I would recommend finding the carabiners you like and keeping that consistent brand-wise. Cheers and happy shopping!
