I was waiting for a conversation about the East-to-West trading that would have existed in Africa because of the relative stability in the climate along the lines of latitude. Guns, Germs, and Steal gives a more comprehensive description of how humans migrated thousands of years ago. I wish the narrator made the connection to the Tyrian Purple and the Carthaginians. It was one of the costliest and most mysterious dyes in ancient times. Used first by the Phoenicians, it was taken from the secretions of several species of mollusks, Murex brandaris, and Purpura haemostoma, and was reserved for use by royalty, priests, and nobles. I also wish that the narrator cited his sources. Some of the migration stories can be found in The Iliad. The images in this clip were remarkable. Now we need a movie about Queen Dido.

Phenoecians were black but the term doesnt refer to purple instead it refers to red (phoinos) the term for purple was murex. Phenoecians were famous for their purple dye.So western historians took advantage of that by associating the term with purple suggesting thats what the term refers to in order to avoid calling them red which is well known to be a black hue.
