The buzz this video has generated in the past few months is crazy. Really did not expect that much attention. But all the better. Let me introduce myself. I am Emre, the founder and producer of Khan's Den. This channel focuses on the history of the Turkic peoples of Antiquity and the Middle Ages. Most of the videos handle topics like the many historical Turkic states - among which the Khazar Khaganate was one of the most important - and the Turkic peoples' ancient way of life. The reason why I made this video was that I wanted to give a non-biased outlook at the Khazar Turks. I had the honor and privilege to interview Peter B. Golden, who for more than 50 years has contributed immensely to Turkic studies. However, I do not necersarily share all the views presented in this video. Thanks for the video, guys! I'm Kalmyk Mongolian (Lower Volga region) and have always been fascinated by the history of Khazars. I always had an impression that Khazars were the smartest of nomadic empires of that time, as they only chose Judaism as a state religion for political reasons not to be associated with anybody but stayed Tengrist between themselves. Lots of ppl often confuse that Khazars were Jews by blood and migrated to the region from Middle East, while in reality Khazars were a federation of tribes what's today is considered as "Turkic/Mongolic/Finno-Ugric/Caucasian" nations. Even though there are no actual written records of their language, if you trace down the geographical history you can figure that Chuvash and Crimean Tatar Jews speak the language that could be considered quite possibly the actual Khazar language. There are plenty of archeological sites found in Kalmykia in the last decade or so near Caspian Sea dated to Khazars period (blacksmith, various factories such as pottery and hand-tools making as well as lots of burial sites). In some weird way, I feel like Dzungars (centuries later) used exactly the same tactic as Khazars. When they would discovered areas with natural resources, they would form a village around it, while still being a nomadic nation for the most part but kept the villages as a "work sites". Incredible! I am a Turk of Turkey. Phenotype of Khasars is like Tatars and Turks of Golden Horda Satate. Their language is an accent of Turkish. Once I watched a documentary on national geographic, İt was about an endangered people protected by UNESCO. When one of those people was talking, I was shocked , because I could understand what she was saying. Because She was speaking in a language very similar to Turkish. And she said 'we are Karaim'. This was almost 15 years ago. After this incident, I did research about Khazars and found out that they are Turkish. You know famous American actor, Charles Branson's religion was Judaism. I was very wonder about this subject when l learned that. I asked my self why such a man who looks like İndians were a Judaist. So after learning about the Khazars, I realized that he was a Khazar Turk(Lipka Tatar)..By the way İn Turkey there are many people Khazar origined. Thanks for this video. I listened to the guy speak in the video and I noticed he said the the Ashkenazi Jews are most closely related to Lebanese, Syrians and most of all Palestinians. The problem with this is, their genetic origins are actually the exact opposite of what he said. After many genetic analysis were completed on multiple AJ, their admixture proportions displayed that they did not originate from the Levant but have mostly Turkic, Slavic and Iranian(highest) origins. Their genomes did not match the genomes of people who originated in the Levant. They did exhibit Lebanese, Syrian and Palestine in their DNA, but no where near the amount that people who actually originated in the Levant or Middle East did. I mean either this video is propaganda or someone didn’t do enough research. This is an attack on the truth.

Bullshit, no genetic study concluded that (many studies concluded literally the opposite lol) and any admixture calculator like G25 will show you that Ashkenazi Jews are more or less half Levantine and half European, the European part being mostly from South Europe. It is theorized that the admixture in Southern Europe took place in Italy (given the continued presence of Jews there) 29 to 49 generations ago while the admixture with Eastern Europeans probably happened during the 13th century (although it's not totaly proven yet). Moreover, if you look at any PCA chart who features european and levantine clusters you will see that Ashkenazi Jews form a genetic bridge between the two with some overlap. This video is just factual and Ashkenazi Jews are not Turks or Slavs, although some minor slavic or turkish admixture can be found in some AJ depending on the region.

Khazaria lasted for about five hundred years. It is believed that without the Khazars, Europe (or at least a sizable part of that continent) would have been completely Islamic. The Byzantine rhetorician Priscus, who was part of an embassy to Attila the Hun’s court in 448 CE, reported that a people known as the “Akatzirs” or “White Khazars” were subjects of the Huns. According to Koestler (1976, p. 23), “Priscus’s chronicle confirms that the Khazars appeared on the European scene about the middle of the fifth century as a people under Hunnish sovereignty, and may be regarded, together with the Magyars and other tribes, as a later offspring of Attila’s horde.”

well, all you have to do is provide DNA evidence or even basic logic that proves these Red-skinned people lived among all these darker tone people a long time ago.
