They had to adapt to their unique climate while keeping their heritage and family value in mind, the result is some of the most uniquely cosy family spaces in the world. I used to love going to my friends house their one of my visits and the vibe and drink chai during a rainy day, and trust me the monsoons are never fun but in Kerala it was kinda nice!

Travelled through Kerala this month. Man ..... What beautiful homes, what sublime aesthetics .... The transition from Kerala to Tamil Nadu was so consipcuous that my mind went from being in awe of architechtural aethetics to depressed because of the brutalist carton box like home designs. Well, I am not singling out Tamil Nadu. Almost all the states have worse home designs. But Kerala, it was different. It was soul satisfying.

When parents get old, they are not able to climb stairs most of the time. It’s always good to have a bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor. We learned that the hard way when my mother has difficulty climbing the stairs.

Beautiful house and very innovative use of outdoor lighting and bringing plants indoors . I’m crazy about varanda. It’s fantastic when one doesn’t have space limitations and when we build up from scratch. It’s very tough to renovate and build up our wishful house

What a wonderful layout! I have never seen seat out like this in the entry way!!! Superbly done... However, you have placed water element in southeast corner ie in the entrance, just before east side kitchen. It is against Vastushaastra. Maybe you can place an oil lamp in Southeast corner to negate that flaw.

Normally in kerala, we buy the wood(log wood) and give it to the carpenters. Then they work on it as per our design and requirements. And pillars can be made in concrete too, with wooden paint finish. Just google for some architecture/ House builders address from kerala. And they may help you in it.
