A fascinating version of the story. A lot of dark themes are added in and explored. These two actors knocked it out of the park!

The totally deconstructed the story to a partial foundation and some beams and rebuilt a new story to delve into motivation. When I saw the trailer, I thought I'd hate the movie but wow, this movie sunk its claws into me. I love faithful adaptations but there's been several of those for A Christmas Carol that this kind of movie is a welcomed change. This is also the very first adaptation where I truly felt that want for Scrooge to see Tiny Tim safe. The ice skating scene was simply brilliant.

There are hundreds if not thousands of versions of a Christmas Carol that have been made over the decades. I've seen probably the 20 most famous versions along with some obscure, off the wall versions. I just love the story. It's just classic, archetypal storytelling. Well, this version invented a lot of stuff that's not in any other version & I thought it was great. It's definitely one of my favorite versions and maybe even my favorite. Loved it. Loved all the stuff with Marley and with Mrs. Cratchitt & I loved Guy Pearce's take on the character. This is a Scrooge that is unique from any other version.

I agree with you 100%. A Christmas Carol is my favourite tale from Charles Dickens (beating Great Expectations to the post). I definitely see Dickens in this re-telling. It was always about how corruption affects an individual and the society around him, but how warm hearts and philanthropic souls attempt to offset it. This is my first year working for myself as a freelance designer and this version speaks to me right now. I work from home which is a little house in the city centre. The colours of a quiet office day/s before Christmas - it IS DARK at 4pm; looking out the window and seeing people joyously heading out for Christmas parties or Christmas shopping but passing the rough sleepers that are trying to get into the hostel down the road. It IS bleak and if a person doesn't make efforts to get out there and be a part of society can be affected by the bleakness. I've just watched the first episode and am I right in sensing that Bob Cratchet is also becoming a little affected by Scrooge's cynicism and bleakness? This re-telling is blooming brilliant!! Responding to the familiar themes (cheering at Bah Humbug! Sobbing at Tiny Tim's little face as he wanted to be skating with his sister. Amazed at the broken jaw because we're used to seeing Marley with his kerchief wrapped around his head to stop that from happening) but getting a different perspective of how Scrooge's corruption came to be. This is some amazing story telling! Xxx

I'm a huge fan of the "A Christmas Carol" story. I reread it every year, and I watch several versions of it as well around Christmas. This one was very unique. Very dark. And overall I really liked it. But the ending was nowhere near as satisfying as previous versions, and it is left feeling like there would be a sequel. They never finished other plotlines they set up, like Scrooge and his nephew for example. Was there originally a plan for a sequel? I can't find that anywhere, but it feels like that was part of the plan.

They need to make a Count of Monte Cristo miniseries next! Guy Pearce was in the 2002 film as the villain, if I remember correctly. Could definitely cast him as another role in a new film version. :D

Wow, it's the first time I see Joe Alwyn in many interviews in the USA. Of course for the movie promotion. Not that I'm complaining. Guy Pearce is a great actor, and I first saw him in the movie Memento. Now curious about this movie.

I grew up with both the original version and the 1984 version!! AMAZING AMAZING BOTH VERSIONS! Lol the 1984 George C. Scott version still scares me to this day the scene where Jacob Marley visits Scrooge and the ghost of Christmas future but I love the message, and how he comes to appreciate and just love life! I recommend a watch for both of them. This 2019 version I honestly surprisingly liked because some movies classic movies shouldn't always get a remake especially, with how many versions there are to this movie, but, I loved it because it goes further back with the story and shows when Jacob Marley got the chain of locks he had to wear and I liked how not only did he himself have to repent for everything he'd done when he was still living he had to get Eboneezer Scrooge to repent and change his life at least he had the chance to change his ways while he was still alive and I love that he ended up seeing the error of his ways

big thumbs down for this interviewer - ditch the diva high tops - they do exactly what you intended: draw attention to you and away from your guests - he needs to up his game - his approach is very amateurish - couldn’t finish watching - felt like I was back in college: hay dude what’s it like you know pretending there’s ghosts - missed opportunity to have great conversation about a fascinating new adaption 👎👎👎
