Copper is among the world's most valuable metals. It's primary use-conducting electricity for billions of people.
Without it, your phone, home, and car would be worthless. And as society evolves, demand is only going in one direction. And not only is it growing, but experts expect copper demand to double within the next decade.
Which brings me to Chile... The world's largest copper producer. Mining is a cornerstone of Chile's economy, as most of what it produces ends up in many other countries worldwide.
In June, we visited CODELCO's DMH mine outside of Calama in the Atacama Desert, thanks to the help of Finning Caterpillar. It was AWESOME.
As a hard rock operation, they drill, blast, load, and haul copper ore, finally processing it into copper concentrate.
To dig the ore, they use enormous rope shovels, and to haul it, they rely on a fleet of mostly Caterpillar's largest trucks-the 797F and 798AC. This is where we began our journey...

Agriculture, mining, manufacturing, and infrastructure in support of the first three, are the only ways to CREATE wealth. Maintenance is the necessary interest on tangible capital represented by the aforementioned. How the wealth is distributed is the blood flow of the organism. Everything else is illusion, waste, theft, fraud, or deception. Pretty much the only things that run post-industrial America.

As much as the trucks are your focus, and cool to see, the more impressive machine is the shovel. P&H or CAT rope shovels are truly modern masterpieces of mining technology.

I spent a lot of time out at Chuqui. I was wondering where all the Liebherrs were. Then it dawned on me...I built those trucks 20 years ago. My how time flies. I do wonder how some of the people I knew in Calama made out.

Imagine for just the US, the electrical grid will need a 30% increase to move to everyone having an EV, and some places in the US have not been upgraded since 1950. This upgrade will require new transformers, cables and more electrical generation systems. BTW, transformers require coolant fluid, which is oil-based.

@vincentgrinn2665 6 ай бұрын
good, the us electrical grid is an outdated piece of crap like you said some parts havnt been upgraded in over 80 years, thats a disgrace its already struggling to handling the increasing demand for electricity *without* including any massive switch to renewables or ev's or whatever

Mmm. the power lines on my street are aluminum, as is the line that comes to my house. But yeh, copper wire is exclusive inside my home, and it’s doubled in cost over the last four years. Understandably too, looking at those big trucks and the vast scope of the mine. Safe travels. 🍁🤙

I worked overseas 30 years ago for 8 months at a big mine in Iran Jaya, Indonesia. It was a huge mine and I remember seeing some numbers that one year they pulled 3/4 of a million ounces of gold in on year. I talked to one of the bosses and he told me the gold was pure profit as the copper they extracted in itself was profitable. I got to work all over from the port site to the mine at 13,000 feet above sea level. I was teaching and supervising Indonesians doing network installation and turn up.

Can anyone explain the water truck load dispersal? Copper commodities are a great way to value a country's currency. World production rates are very stable and it doesn't have major swings in value.

Hello, American, the most famous king construction machines, KZbinr brother, I follow your KZbin channel from Turkey and subscribed. Some of the videos on your channel are more long-term videos. It's good. So why don't you think about making action movies about Liebherr big digger excavator construction machines? I live in Turkey, because Liebherr is the biggest one in the world. I love digger excavator construction machines very much, because liebherr excavator construction machines have been an extreme illness and obsession in my life, my friend, brother, one day when I become president, can you shoot action movies of liebherr big digger excavators?
