How Modern Coal Mining Works with Bravus Mining & Resources

Coal mining is a thing of the past? Think again. Thanks to incredible access provided by Bravus Mining and Resources, we take you behind the scenes of the Carmichael Mine, one of Australia’s newest mining operations.
The Carmichael Mine is one of 100 coal mines in Australia, producing around 10 million tons of coal annually.
Consistent power is necessary to help lift millions out of poverty, and coal is a crucial ingredient. Bravus helps meet the world’s growing energy demand with high-quality coal, displacing lower-quality coal mined in detrimental ways.
The mine operates 24/7, with crews often flying directly to the site and staying within the local camp due to its remote location.
They move the overburden and coal with trucks and shovels. We saw their enormous Liebherr 9800s (some of the biggest hydraulic excavators in the world) load Caterpillar haul trucks on day and night shifts. I even got a ride!
Once they reach the coal seams, they mine and haul it out of the mine and to the processing plant, where it’s cleaned, sized, and loaded onto rail cars for shipping.
As they mine, there’s a well-designed plan for reclamation, which calls for restoring all land to its original state.
To learn more about Bravus and the Carmichael mine, check out their website at www.bravusmining.com.au/

Thanks for finally coming out to Aus Aaron. I've been working in the Australian coal industry (as a geologist) since about 2002, mostly Bowen Basin, so, about 150km east of Bravus. Never worked in the Galillee Basin though. I'm hoping you enjoyed the paperwork you had to fill out to get on site :)

To expand on what Aaron was saying about coal, it's easy to say coal is bad when your children and yourself are being clothed, fed, housed and educated no matter what power source your electricity comes from. Cheap energy makes all that much less expensive and actually possible when you have so little money to go around. Getting the poor access to cheap energy gives them the economic ability to care about the environment.

this can't be proven and is highly unlikely. there needs to have been life on a planet for there to be fossil fuels, it doesn't have to have intelligent life on it now, like we do on earth. the rarest elements are surely the whole slew of them that are radioactive, ie are unstable and decaying.

A little ironic that the coal is exported to Asia where many of the EV cars are build and exported to Europe. Germany has banned coal and now they have big problems to get enough energy. Other contries are forced to export green energy like hydro and wind energy thru agreements made by the EU. The consequense is that electricity prize is sky rocketing because of the larger demands for clean energy.

When I was a child I played in my sand box with my Tonka toys. My father told me "son find something you enjoy doing no matter what it is. If you really enjoy doing it. Then you will get good at It and the money will follow." Well I turned Lincoln Logs into house . Then turned the sand box into doing dirt work. I am busy sometimes 100 hours a week. But I have been a very successful business. Then to top it off in 20 years I have never worked a day in my life. Make sure you never tell your kids they can't turn their dreams and passion into reality. As long as big government keeps its hand out of their pocket. The American government is the biggest cartel on the planet. Pablo Escobar was far less dangerous and far more trustworthy. The goverments best person is far worse of a person than Pablo was. I'm talking the ones in charge not the ones that think they are putting their life on the line to protect their children's freedoms. The Rothchilds and Rockefellers need removed from the planet. That would be the best start ever in the history of mankind.

I get tired with my old girl just turning the soul in my garden. My Dynahoe was a Bucyrus Erie made brand, so I pretend to be a big mining backhoe excavator in my garden 😊 it does get tiring after a time, doing the same swing and dump over and over. I think it's the same for the drivers of those huge off road dumps. The same haul road back and forth. You have to really enjoy the work to stay at it.

6:30 I guess that in Québec, our notion of "remote" is different. We've built 100km long power lines to mines. Heck, the most of the dams that power our cities are a thousand kilometers north and some of theses lines continue another 500 kms into the state of New York to export electricity. Something that is "remote" quite literally has to be at the northern tip of the province, where the only way in and out is by plane or boat.

What type of and size of Mechanic Trucks do they use on site to repair the 796 mine trucks should they break down in the mine excavation area or on the haul roads? Are they specialized trucks or do they just load and tow the 796s back to the mine shop?

I'm a mechanic at a surface copper mine running 793s. Our field service trucks are pretty standard Super Duty chassis trucks with a service bed, crane, compressor, and welder. Where possible, trucks are repaired out in the field. Most issues are field-repairable (blown lines, starter failures, electrical problems, brake rotochambers) and the truck can be released without going to the shop. For more major problems, we get the truck to a state where it can be safely driven to the shop for further repair. If it absolutely cannot be driven, it's towed to the shop with a wrecker built off a 789 chassis.

@@Porty1119 Thanks for the info, I was curious if the service/mechanic trucks for mining machines were specialized specifically for the large equipment or the typical service truck as used in our earthmoving fleet ie. the two Kenworth T880s with a IMT Dominator IV Body with 14,000 lb cranes and Miller Pro 800 welders we currently run. I’d like to see the wrecker mounted on the 789 chassis, has to be the largest wrecker in existence lol. Thanks again for the info 👍👍
