Thank you Nev for such fantastic video. I started lawn bowling almost a year before. Being very good sport person in cricket, badminton and table tennis, I grasped the game very quickly. Within six to eight months I started playing with grade 2 players socially. Everyone noticed that my way of standing and aiming is very different. When I deliver bowls, few people observing my game. Up till now I thought, I am playing against copybook. Many time I decided to follow everyone style of standing. Then I said myself, if I am getting result I will continue with this my own style of play. After seeing your video, I am so confident and happy that I was standing on the mat exactly the way you have described from beginning. In my case it is simply a coincidence matching your words to words. I am a beginner but agree 100% what you say. You have fuelled extra confidence in me. Once again many thanks.

as a coach i use your technique and have developed a visual aid to assist bowlers by running a string from the middle of the mat to the aiming point, i attach the string to the ditch point , this instills a visual image for how their bowl turns. It also instills in their mind if they are actual delivering the bowl to their aiming point.

I have just started bowling (10 weeks), but due to pain in the hand I have had to change to a smaller bowl. I have not actually rolled the new ones, but they are the same make and model as my larger set, so that part should be fine. But now I have to learn weightowl with a smaller bowl, so I am going to start off with the new stance at the same time. I had an instant improvement after I watched the clip about how to hold my model bowl, so I hope there will be an equal improvement with this stance. I was taught the right foot aiming style, but I naturally pointed my foot wider, then had to get into an uncomfortable stance to bowl. This will help me improve because I will be more comfortable when delivering the bowl. Really glad I found this, now to try it.
@Ravaxr
@Ravaxr 8 жыл бұрын
I took this up as part of my smaller club, and in just a couple months of games every other day or so, I was consistently winning games and making some shots that I wasn't sure I really could make. And I discovered this right after I started lawn bowls outright. I also transferred it over to 10 pin bowling (though I had some of the idea beforehand, and changed the stance more purposefully this time around) and I get so much clearance from it that I don't think I have bumped my leg since adopting it even with a ball a foot in diameter. Certainly haven't done it once with a bowl. It seems like it could be referred to as a 'fencer's stance' as well as 'shooter's', since it is so reminiscent of the footwork of a swordsman with a foil. Stumbling as a fencer is obviously not good, so having the stance right keeps good balance, keeps the fencer upright, and preventing an easy touch. Also as a fencer, you do need to lunge pretty far, much like you would delivering a bowl.

Hi Nev, I have been bowling about 5 years and came across your 'shooters stance' which help people with a balance issue. I am now a recipient of wearing a cochlear implant and my balance was affected greatly. Trying your 'stance for the past few weeks,' I found a great improvement in my delivery. Could you please also do a video on your foot position for the backhand delivery. Thank you for such a easy video to learn and practice.

Great tip Nev, love the new stance,When I started bowling I was given a book written by David Bryant. I adopted his twisting hand delivery, as what he said in his book made perfect sense to me. As this is the only way I have delivered bowls it feels natural and very smooth. Some coaches have advised me to change to the more orthodox delivery, but I still prefer David Bryants style. I would like your opinion on this, maybe even as part of your video. As David Bryant said it works for him but realisies the timing of the release and bowl position are really critical.The Shooter Stance" makes sense to me also, so I have changed my footing and it works well. I have even got my wife doing it which is amazing as she hasn't changed her delivery for years . She feels she has more stability playing the backhand, and is getting more success in her running shots and drives.Cheers mate.

I've played for 30+ years. I've struggled mentally with my forehand for 10 years or so to the point where I favour my backhand. Not good and I'm sure I've lost games because of it. I too have lost my forehand. I had a 30 year absence from the game,moved to America from the Uk and cannot get my forehand back,no matter what I try. I can’t skip anymore…all I can do is draw on my backhand. I’m definitely going to try this tomorrow! I just played in the US open a few days ago. I won 4 and lost 4. I can only imagine what I could’ve done if I had my forehand going!

This is our 2nd season playing bowls and thanks to your brilliant ‘build your skills’ website I’m proud to tell you my name appears on the Honours board on 2 continents here at my local club in the U.K. where I won the Mixed pairs and ladies doubles last year. Hi Nev, I look forward to trying this new stance. Hopefully it will help my delivery. I have noticed your left foot on the stance is well ahead of your right foot. Is that also to help your balance with your stance and delivery ? With your right foot not aiming at the delivery point does it matter what angle your right foot is at with the stance or whatever is comfortable ?

Hi Nev, I also meant to mention that I noticed on your video that you put the disc on the green as your delivery point 4 - 5 metres from you. Is this what you do for your normal delivery ? Keen for your thoughts as I have tried different delivery points over the years and still really trying to work out the best way to go. I have tried a mark on the bank and green previously. Cheers Simon

@flyinkiwi171

Im curious as to how the back hand works also with you basically twisting at the knee. Personally I take a wide stance with my feet just beyond shoulder width. Im 6'4 and I find this gives me great balance and allows for a smooth transition into the swing as the body is not squished together and needing to contort in any way. I dont see how this improves your line statistically. I feel that these results people are experiencing is due to an extra emphasis on correct line whilst training, if you delivery is constant and you have a smooth swing, it shouldn't matter... Hell look at Alex Marshal, in my opinion the best in the world yet is delivery is in no way similar to anything taught in nz or aus.
