That’s got to be the greatest video on KZbin for 2024! Absolutely incredible work Paul and everyone involved. What an achievement!! Moving forward you should do whatever you like with the car - it was left for dead and resurrected so build it how you want it - I’d definitely go a 4spd conversion. Can’t wait to see what’s next and hopefully you can do an another adventure like this again. 👌

I used to do Perth to Adelaide and Melbourne or Sydney weekly for 2yrs seen some funny things and some not so good, I pulled up at Nullarbor roadhouse on one particular return trip from Sydney and I went in to get a coffee ( BIG CUP called a bubble keg ) on my way out the door I spots these tourists adorning my bull bar of the truck. Well I was having a slurp on my coffee nearly spat it out the tourists all looked at me as if I had 2 heads & asked if it was OK to do so as no one was around to ask . I said I wouldn't lean on it too much as there was a smattering of yellow guts from grasshoppers I came thought a huge swarm a few days back , when I told them this out came the wet wipes and one of the chick's that was an ornament she chucked her entire gutz up making several others from the tour bus spew too now that was a fond funny one. What a cool video Paul hope you keep the lovely ol' girl for lots more trips to make great memories with thx for a good lot of video keep up the cool content.

Mate, loved the series. Well done. As for what to do. Fix the oil leak. 4 speed swap. Single webber carb. Fix the roof lining and weather seals and that is it. Then just drive it and love it. They are not fast by todays standards so dont bother trying to make it a drag machine. It is a special car the way it is. Dont wreck it trying to make it into something that it shouldnt be. That is why we love nuggets.

I restored a LJ Torana a few years ago and my roof lining did the exact same thing. There is a knack to putting them in. Plus there is a couple of different hole positions for the bows. You are right with the wind coming thru from the boot. I found another upholsterer who knew torries really well and he sorted it out. No problems ever since. Well done on the Torrie and the road trip. 👍

I had a brand new 2door s Torana in 1970 and within a couple of months the roof lining collapsed during a thunder storm it was fixed under warranty , so they have had this problem from day one.

I started watching today, ended up watching more, and kept going and watched the whole series. My first car was an LC Torana SL in exactly the same colour. Mine was a 3 speed column shift with a 161 (4 wheel drums though). I'm feeling for you with that 3 speed in there all that way. I'm planning a trip in September in my 75 Galant wagon. I'm planning to take it back to it's place of origin for it's 50th birthday. I restored it back between 2005-2008. Factory twin carbs, 5 speed, and swapped the diff out from 3.89:1 to 3.6:1. It's really happy sitting at (cough cough) 120km+. Awesome watching, that's for the added inspiration. If I had something with a red motor again, I'd be inclined to switch to a blue motor 12 port head (shave it), and a decent carb/carbs.

Awesome series Paul. I had an LJ, many moons ago. Had the 138 cu/in (2250cc) in it with the 3 on the tree. So yes, they did come out with the 138. The 173 was designated as a 2850cc and I'm pretty sure the GTR had the 202 (3300cc). November 12 months ago I took the family from Central Victoria to Bathurst for the same reason you did. Spent 2 nights at the Mt Panorama Rydges hotel which outside of race meetings is no more expensive than any other hotel of it's class. Think I did about 15 laps at 60 kph over the time we were there. My son timed a lap at 60 and it took a bit over 6 mins. Supercars do it in just over 2. FYI Victoria's roads are possibly worse than NSW. We have caves in highways all named 'rough surface ahead'. Cheers mate, can't wait to see what comes next.

What an adventure Paul! I initially thought when you took on this project, 'what a brave bloke' especially considering DJ'S definition of 'mint' 😂😂 but the little Terry made it! I was expecting to hear about more problems but it did the HUGE journey which speaks volumes of these old school cars to survive.....and that's bloody awesome. You do you as far as what you want this awesome little car to be, you've certainly earned it. What I've done to these little beasts in the past is triple su's, or CD Strombergs. Hard to tune and balance, yes, but I reckon it's a piece of piss for a bloke like you. I used to use a M20 four speed before celica 5 speeds became a thing, but then I too became a fan of the Toyota 5 speed even though it didn't sit well in my soul 😅😅. I appreciate so much the 3 on a tree for cruising. I've had many a beautiful old Holden, Ford or Valiant with column shift and you're right,it is a fading thing in these times. Love the series and particularly the documentation of the journey. Well done mate

I did drag my 1980 US with a 253 fitted across the Nullarbor twice once in 2002, then back in 2003, also towing a trailer, and I averaged about 6km per leter at the best. Would be the same gearing as this Torana. Then in 2015 I did it again, but this time in my 2010 VE SS Commodore, and averaged 10km per liter for the whole 9500km road trip. Glad you enjoyed the trip across, even with little niggles, it's a great experience, and so much more fun in an old car.

To do this road trip in an old classic like that is an Aussie dream. I was lucky enough to do it in an old for XP station wagon. Did it 4 times in the old girl. It's been a blast following your build with all the guys. we did a Rambler Rebel rescue from Tassie in 2009 to Victoria. i drove over with a ute load of parts (missing exhaust, brake booster, radiator, fuel tank, rear brakes and a host of other issues) assembled it over 3 days and picked my mate up from the airport in the morning and proceeded to drive it 500km odd home via the Spirit of Tasmania in the same day, lots of luck involved, time deadline as both cars were booked for the ferry that day, personally i'd start the next project and just enjoy this LC as it is. find a better fuel tank, fit another column shift ,not much else. it's been off the road too long already. I was going to say check the oil pressure switch (had XF falcon ones fail and squirt oil out several times over a 10yrs period) but the cam welsh plug is also a suspect for Me also. either not seated or worn through. (not in the bell housing? if so, surely would be giving rear main symptoms ?) ROAD CONDITIONS.. they crap on about be alert, drive safe and etc.. but then you are focussed on the pot holes 90% of the time let alone watching the speedo needle. when we drove from Melb to the Gold coast late September, the amount of "road hazards" (broken cars on the side of the road) was disturbing, and most looked like damaged wheel/flat tyres from previous stretches of pot holes.. end rant..

Hi, I restored a 1958 fe Holden and took out the old fuel tank replacing it with a Ford xa Ltd 18 gallon tank. Had to cut out all the boot floor up to the chassis and some of the different arch to be able to fit it. It had to be mounted backwards from the ford but hung down below the bumper and looked great from behind. I not only doubled the fuel capacity but also made more room in the boot as the spare wheel sits inside the fuel tank. Loved the whole rebuild of your Nugget mate great stuff

well done Paully. absolute best show on youtube. enjoyed your journey from the beginning. good to see the WA boys helping you out. they all have great channels as well, a great community. as for the Torana and what you should do with it. its always your car and you can do what ever you want...but...i would leave it as it is to remind you of your journey and the people you you have met along the way. all the very best.

Multiple carbs require constant tuning . A proper Holley set-up is far less maintenance, however holleys are prone to catching fire due to wear around the butterfly shaft.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this, makes me want to do it too. Couldn't have picked a better car to do it in either love the old LC/LJ toranas. Look forward to see what's next for the torana. Me personally I'd put tripples on it with a bigger cam.. Don't h8 me for this, I'd even consider putting in an auto and small stally just for some fun..🤙

Fit a 350 Holley as it's only 173 cubes. In my opinion a great carb. You can't pass through Bathurst without a pilgrimage to the holly land! Enjoyed every video..........
