Those live tracks are songs they wrote for an album and played before the album was ready to be released. Nearly every band does it. Doug didn’t just write these songs for no reason and then just decided to throw together on an album later lol

Just saw them in Philly. They were great as always. Surprised they did a lot of old songs. Interesting as a three-piece, with Doug holding all the guitar parts down. I like every song they've ever put out. From wavers to moon. How often can you say that about a band? Lifelong fan here

I've probably seen them 30 times, most recently in January and am with you 100% I just can't seem to get tired of their shows. Definitely feel that the evolving lineup over time has kept things fresh but it's mostly the seemingly endless bag of great tracks they have to pull out at any given set. I feel similarly about modest mouse who I just saw last night actually, however their shows are not as consistent in quality from my experience. (Although when MM is on fire man it really does it for me)

While this is better than anything I heard off the last album, it's just not the Built To Spill I keep waiting for. Something musically arranged into a masterpiece on the level of Mozart like "Broken Chairs" or as lyrically deep as "Randy Describes Eternity". Maybe those days are just behind us. Yeah, it's been 20-25 years and it doesn't really make sense to think like that. Back then music was an absolute obsession for Doug and the others and they were in their 20s/30s. It's just natural. Having said that, I'm surprised you prefer this to Untethered Moon then since those songs surely were more jammy than this, no? I guess you're more about the layers than the jams.

The beauty is that each record adds to their catalogue. Perfect from Now On is probably my favorite, but I feel like each album still has elements that have always been there since the beginning. My only complaint for this new album is that 9 songs is too short for my taste! I wish the album gave us more songs.
