This song got me in such a good mood. The highlight for me was definitely the guitarist who played phenomenally. We got crazy talent on the main vocalist and the lyrics were so beautiful. I couldn't really get the main topic, but it was about nature, spring, love and life. It felt just, as it was about happiness in general. This classic song was written by Kazi Nazrul Islam who is the national poet of Bangladesh. He stayed quite a few months in a landlord's house at Becharam Dewri Road in Old Dhaka. Inside the big arena of that house there was a beautiful flower garden. Nazrul observed beautiful black birds called “Bulbuli” always play around in the garden. So one day he wrote this amazing melodious song maybe in 1926. And the songs written by Nazrul Islam called Nazrul Geeti have a separate patent in Bangali songs.Firoza Begum is considered to be the best artist of this type of song.

The male singer who sang the gazal represented the garden, and the female singer represented the bulbul (songbird). A trivia here, the female part of the song is not a part of the original gazal; it is added as an answer to the gazal by the coke studio team. In the opening verse, the garden asks the bulbul not to shake the flower branches as spring has not yet come. Then, he goes by how the bees are slumbering, how flowers have not yet bloomed, northern winds are still blowing, and the warm southern breeze has not yet arrived. In the second verse, he is lamenting when this spring will come, when the flowers will bloom, and when the dewdrops will wake up the garden. Then, in the last verses, the bulbul starts answering that no one is waking up while she is shaking the flower branches. But she will wake up everyone for sure as the spring has come. Then, she asks the bees and flowers to wake up as the southern wind has come.

You are right about this song having so much metaphors. The poet is longing for the spring to come at the first part of the song , he is telling the "bulbuli" love birds not to swing the flower boughs as the flowers buds may fall. The northern winds that he mentions are winter winds, a metaphor of bad/tough/sad times. And then when the girl sings, she says the southernly winds have come, which means spring winds, a metaphor of happiness/good times. And in this song the poet is talking about the nature changing, and the hard times replaced by good times. But the fun part is the whole song is a metaphor, a reference to nature . He might be telling about his sick son, his beloved ones, or the hardships of people. It could be anything. Our national poet wrote this song , and his lyrics are so heavy and deep. It makes you think.

Man this song has a dramatic background! Its an abstract, the poet had a son named BULBUL, when bulbil died at his young age, poet wrote this song in sorrow. He was telling BULBULI( a bird with melodious voice) not to swing the unbloomed flower because his sleeping son would then wake up. The lyrical meaning was not the focus there....every element of that song was a indicating something of his life. He was comparing the beauty of spring with his gone son and telling not to disturb his sleep. On the lyrics-- On the surface it's a person chastising a Bulbuli (a songbird) for rocking the flower boughs pre-maturely, when the Spring is not here yet and the flower buds are not ready to wake up. But it's also about love and anticipation. A lover waiting for his/her beloved, who is still far away-- the Bulbuli is prancing around like it's already Spring, but in his heart, the lover still feels the cold of winter, as he longs for his beloved, the incarnation of Spring. It's written by Nazrul Islam, a major poet in Bangla (anglicized Bengali) language about a century ago. I can be wrong. What I have heard is, Kazi Nazrul’s 3rd son's name was Bulbul. He died early at the age of 5. After this incident the poet was heartbroken and wrote some poems. Here he is talking to his son through the bird (bulbuli). (like a father giving advice). He is telling the bird not to shake the flower buds from the branch as Spring hadn't come yet and flowers hadn't bloomed. The 2nd part was added by Gousul Shawon stating that the spring has returned but the beloved one hasn't.

Here the poet is speaking to "Bulbul" the bird who is the symbolic expression of the lover (male). "Bagicha" or the garden is representing the heart of his beloved. The heart is like a garden where you can grow compassion or fear, resentment or love. It depends on you which seeds you'll grow. The flower bud is the symbol of the latent love of his beloved for him which needs to be awakened and bloomed. This is actually a sad song. However the composer wanted to put two opposite sides together. The garden (represented by the male voice) is still sad by the winter (spring comes after winter here in Bangladesh and Indian subcontinent) However the joy of the bird (represented by the female) can not be contempt, so she made her moves and defended herself being nothing happened.

Actually the appeal of this song Couldn't be translated to any other languages. This is not about the nature, but yes! but not! It’s all about the feelings to someone you are completed drowned into love but she still didn’t notice you and you are trying and trying to wake her up for you in a decent way with full of passion. Spring is the season/symbol of love here in our locality and the calling/appeal is increasing more and more because this is the high time to wake up and express and share love to each other. Nature, weather and creatures here used in a hypothetic way. Bulbul is a kind of bird who becomes crazy in the spring as like as Kokil (bird).
