Does the new filter have to be changed twice as often as the rest since it's filtering waste water?

After upgrading with this kit, would the system benefit even more with a permeate pump?

Thanks for your reply. I do have a pressurized tank. I forgot to mention that I also have a booster pump before the prefilters. Does it make a difference in what I asked?

Ok I installed the upgrade kit and am now curious if the flow restricter needs to also be upgraded. I upgraded to a 200 gpd kit. Thanks.
@BRStv3 жыл бұрын
As long as you added the same size membrane to your system, you don't need to change the flow restrictor.

Thank you, can you please do a video on how to open the membrane canister without using a vise, pipe wrench, big pliers or anything that will damage the housing? I've seen and heard of many people having a major issue opening them up! thanks so much in advance!

I have a 100 gpd membrane now.. Do I have to upgrade with another 100 gpd membrane, or can the membrane be mismatched?? (example,,, upgrading my 100gpd with a 75gpd?)
@BRStv4 жыл бұрын
You'll want to match the membranes up because you're only going to use one flow restrictor. It's important that that flow restrictor is properly sized for optimal performance.

I bought the 100gpd rodi system and my pressure is at 62psi do you think I can add this water saver with 62psi?

The difference between 62 and 65 psi is going to be so small that you will hardly notice.

Question with this…….can you fit a 150gpd waste stage to a 400gpd primary filter…..or do these have to be matched….eg 150 and 150 or 400 and 400….to stay balanced.
@BRStv2 жыл бұрын
You'll want to match the RO membranes if you're going to be running them in a water saver configuration because they both work off of one flow restrictor that needs to be sized properly for both membranes.

I have a some what unusually low TDS normally 30 and under with near unmeasurable chlorine levels. Would it be possible to get by with a line up of filter and carbon blocks without the full RO/DI system?

cool. quick question, what would happen if i put 2 extra 'upgrade' kits on in series.. your video showed with 1 extra... how about if i did 2? would i get better performance or is their like a limit where the gain you get in product water is minimal.

Hi. What difference does it make to the system, if you have 400 flow restrictor, compared to a 550 restrictor. As I've seen other videos with your system and they have the 400 fitted.

Do you have 2 outputs on this unit? 1 output for RO water drinking, 1 output for RODI water ? I would like to buy a filter kit that I can use for both: reef tank & drinking water as well
@BRStv4 жыл бұрын
You could simply add a t fitting after the RO membrane, but before the DI. That way, you could have one line go through the DI for your reef tank water, and another line bypassing it for your drinking water.

I have a 100gpd system, can I add another 150gpd membrane on top or does it have to be 150gpd one?
@UnfilteredJustice7 жыл бұрын
If I were to use 2 - 100gpd membranes, what would be the required psi? Right now I'm running a single 150gpd membrane at 65-80 psi, depending if other water sources are running in the house. Also, could one use an oversized restrictor to boost the psi?

My rodi has air stuck in it and makes an annoying vibrating noise. Can you make a video on this?
@penPuck3 жыл бұрын
I followed this video to the T, but when I open the flush valve, nothing comes out. I do have the flush valve the correct direction. Did I miss something? It also renders my booster pump ineffective when the valve is open. Not sure what's up with that. I am already enjoying being able to make water over 5x as quickly.
@BRStv3 жыл бұрын
You'll want the flush valve in the "closed" position when you're making water. If you're still having troubles, give our customer service team a call and I'm certain that we can get you up and running.
@laurenhanna32335 жыл бұрын
does it have to be a Y-connector or can it be a T connector? (the part the merges the RO water into the two units)

At what TDS should you change the pre-filters?
@UnfilteredJustice7 жыл бұрын
UltraReef's Channel You change the sediment filter when your psi starts to drop, meaning it's getting clogged. You change the carbon block by measuring the chlorine in your product water. They sell very simple strips on BRs website. As soon as it starts to register the slightest level of chlorine, it's time to replace. And I'm talking .25ppm of chlorine so it won't ruin the membrane. More often than not I just replace the sediment and carbon together even if the carbon isn't exhausted. It's just easier.
@Ju5tin4real3 жыл бұрын
I change all three pre filter as they are cheap enough when bought together. 10 mins and done.
@UltraReefReseller3 жыл бұрын
@@Ju5tin4real lol, 3 years later, that's what I've been doing as well. I've even put in new RO membranes on this 7 stage RODI unit from BRS, still going strong making great water!

hi. what flow restrictor recommend for 200 gpd single membrane? thanks
@juliandiaz445 жыл бұрын
When using the waste water line for the second membrane, doesn't this mean the second membrane will be consumed faster, as it gets water with a higher TDS then water from the source line?
@BRStv5 жыл бұрын
That's a plausible theory. Even so, the TDS concentration isn't usually drastically higher. If you had 200 TDS source water, that would mean roughly 250 TDS hitting the second membrane. Definitely not a huge jump and something the second membrane could easily take care of. Even in a water saver configuration, most of our customers will see 2-3+ years of membrane life.

Question: I have an auto flush on my RO. Right now when that runs, it’ll flush the membrane. But how does that system work now that the waste water from the first is going into the second RO? When the system calls for “flush”, will that allow for both membranes to properly flush?
@BRStv4 жыл бұрын
Since both membranes operate on a single flush valve, they'll both effectively be flushed when the auto flush is in the flush mode 😀
@xzibit86144 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the quick reply. Last question: I want to install a drinking water kit before my DI. But I keep reading about TDS creep. Since the sink faucet will fill a glass at a time, and I’ll also install a T fitting to feed the fridge. Will my drinking water reservoir be full of TDS due to short runs? Right now it flushes for 15 seconds before it runs. But is that enough to prevent TDS creep in the permeate line? By the way I live in San Jose, CA. My tap water reads 394 TDS. Tastes horrible.. If I go forth, do you know when the water saver kit will be back in stock?
@TwoOnesTanks5 жыл бұрын
for 65 psi, do i need to install a booster pump? I'm told house psi shouldnt be more than 60
@BRStv5 жыл бұрын
You would not need a booster at 65 PSI. This is the minimum requirement for our water saver upgrade as well.

Question: I have an auto flush on my RO. I just installed the BRS water saver kit... how does that change the auto flushing process?
@BRStv4 жыл бұрын
It doesn't change how the auto flush operates. Since the water saver systems use a single flow restrictor, the auto flush will effectively flush both membranes.
@xzibit86144 жыл бұрын
Got it. Do I have to install a larger capacity flow restrictor?

hi, at your website which one should I choose to get the BRS 150 GPD Water Saver Upgrade Kit 4 Stage 75GPD dual series? is it this 4 Stage 150GPD Plus Water Saver RO/DI System $219.99??

Waste Water purity question: On average, how much cleaner is the waste water produced from 1 RO (75gpd membrane) compared to the source tap water? Example: If source tap water had 50ppmTDS and normal city amount of chlorine etc…Would the waste water produced still have less TDS than the source tap water? because it’s passed through the pre filters ? Or does the RO membrane add anything bad back?
@BRStv Жыл бұрын
That's a good question. While we've never looked into that specifically, here are some thoughts. The waste water, like the product water, all passes through the pre-filters. Those pre-filters don't remove TDS, but they do help remove sediment and chlorine/chloramines from the water. So, in that regard, the waste water from the RO/DI system is still "better" than tap water. As far as TDS goes, the TDS of waste water should be slightly higher than your source water as it's more concentrated after being rejected by the RO membrane.

Adding this membrane dropped my pressure 20psi. 75-55..... probably negligent savings. That's with booster.
@BRStv4 жыл бұрын
That's very strange, we usually don't see a significant pressure drop when adding a water saver upgrade kit. I would suggest double checking that all of the plumbing is correct before you give up on it.
