Matt you think a ugly stick Big Water 10 foot casting rod would work for bull reds
@MattsSaltwaterFishing6 жыл бұрын
Yeah it should work according to the specs. The main thing is the line rating and lure rating. Last thing you want is to be casting an 8oz weight and the rod breaks.
@trippyman31446 жыл бұрын
Matt's Saltwater Fishing do you have any rod recommendations I’m gonna put a Penn Jigmaster 500 on it
@MattsSaltwaterFishing6 жыл бұрын
@@trippyman3144 the Ugly stik should work. The Jigmaster 500 is a good little reel. I hear the Daiwa surf rods are pretty good and the Ocean Master from Bass Pro. If I was gonna go the custom route I would probably build on a 1042. $135 for blank, $100 guides, $30 reel seat, $20 grips and then have someone build/wrap it for ~$150 depending on what you want.
@trippyman31446 жыл бұрын
Matt's Saltwater Fishing that’s per plank right how much you think in all to built a custom rod
@MattsSaltwaterFishing6 жыл бұрын
@@trippyman3144 yeah $135 just for the 1042 blank nothing else. For a complete build I would say somewhere around $450. Some people charge more or less to build the rod depending on what kind of wrap you want on it. If you just want the rod built with no fancy wrap like you see on our rods then it should cost less than if you got a wrap like ours. If you keep your eyes open you might get some Black Friday sales on either the blank or some of the parts. You don't need a pretty rod to catch fish though. All the rods we are using are 20 years old. The Harrington blanks are even older than that. If you take care of your stuff it will last so you can pass on to your kids. Something to keep in mind.

@@MolotovMouse if you want to just catch smacks then I recommend just throwing a 1oz mann-o-lure or spoon. You can also use a Yozuri 3DS minnow or similar lure. Good video man !!! Would you recommend a avet mxl g2 or avet lx g2?
@MattsSaltwaterFishing6 жыл бұрын
Personally I would go with the LX because I like to use mono and the LX would probably hold about 300 yards of 40lb mono. The MX would be fine for pier fishing as well just depends what size reel you personally want. I am using the Avet HXW 5/2 which holds about 500 yards of 40lb mono which is obviously overkill for Bull Reds but if I hook that 6' or 7' Bull Shark I should be fine.

@@trippyman3144 my biggest Bull Red is probably 47" or 48" and shark is about a 5' Blacktip (I don't target sharks). My dad, brother and friends have caught 6'+ sharks during Bull Red season on castout baits with 4/0s and wide 4/0s.
