I wish I could remember who sponsored the 'first' world champion tournament at Bull Shoals where I took 3rd place as a 13 yr old Guide. The going rate for a guide was $12.50/day. They were not going to let me fish since I was too young. I called out that I had read the entire entry contract and there was no mention of age anywhere, so they let me fish. There was a length limit, the bass had to be 12 inches long. I did not have a ruler, and turned in 9 fish that were 11 7/8 inches long that would have elevated me to First Prize, a Boat Motor and Trailer.
