You're going to need to carry a better digging tool! OOPS, it was in the boat. The skull is like 10 - 12K BP? It's the same species that was found with the original Clovis tools in New Mexico. Nice!!

For anyone wondering how to go about finding incredible things like this, this is what I do... I also live in Missouri as well, just a half block from the Mississippi river. I began rockhounding 3 yrs ago and I've accumulated quite a collection of everything from fossils, dino bones, gemstones, gold, geodes & lots & lots of native american tools & artifacts. To find the neatest things I use one tool...my 6th sense. When something catches your eye or you feel drawn to something, trust it. When I trust my own intuition, it's proven right almost every time. I believe this is owed to the 6th sense. Our subconscious brains are in a constant state of processing the information surrounding us that we're too distracted to notice, determining it's value, (i.e. are we in danger?) then either discarding said information or moving it into our conscience mind to be acted on accordingly. Our subconscious finds that curious things hold the same value to us that danger does. This is because constantly learning is what keeps us alive. So when surrounded by the potential to learn, our intuition kicks in & we're made conscience of it by a gut feeling, just as we are of impending danger. Intuition is a necessary means to existence. So don't focus too much, enjoy your walk, & go with your gut. Your 6th sense has your six. 😊
