Here it is! First Bullet Journal of 2020. I made a real concerted effort to use pure GTD methodology this time around.

I have fallen off the BuJo wagon so far that I was about to search for a different system. As I examined what worked well in the past and enabled me to value the BuJo, I rediscovered GTD, Frankenlog, and Brian Hazard! I just watched this video yet again and now am inspired to revive my BuJo. Thanks Brian!

Hey Brian, this is the first video of yours I've watched, and THERE'S NO TURNING BACK. Everytime you said "...but you don't care" I was like BUT I CARE KEEP EXPLAINING! lol I really enjoyed learning about the way you use different methods, I related a lot to you and I don't really know her but I love your dog. LOL. I'm here to add the same exact opinion. First video, quick fan. :) Brian, I really appreciated your insights and thought process and subscribed early in the video. I'm phobic about putting anything in writing and digital didn't work well for me. This system is what I was looking for but couldn't even describe. Please stop apologizing, Brian! You are appreciated more than you'll ever know. You have a tribe!

Brian you have done what I’ve been thinking about for years. Wow. GTD, both personal and professional, Covey 7 Habits, Personal Management System, Frankenlog with Digital calendar and an analog system. All seamlessly integrated into one system that’s clear and that you use daily this is absolutely game changing and awesome. You have really done something special please more and more detail on everything.

Well, the good news is that I'm going to have a bit more free time coming up here and I'll be able to make more content (allegedly). The bad news is that my career change means I no longer have such a complicated system so there won't be a ton of follow up on my GTD/BuJo combo system. However, I've fallen off with my Steven Covey weekly planning and there's just no good reason for that. Need to hop back on that horse.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I dig your system so much, to the point that I came back and watched both 25+ minute videos on the 2020 video and the 2021 video. As someone who has struggled with actually getting things done and just starting up a new habit of bujo, your videos were extremely approachable and helpful. I would encourage you to make some blog posts to summarize your findings and setups that you have developed under the various contexts that you have worked in (i.e., your 2020 journal set up for those of us who have lots of needs or the 2021 version for those of us with less stuff to do). I think you’re doing great work here and I want to encourage you to keep being creative in a way that will be helpful to potentially hundreds and even thousands of people. I’m trying to keep from rambling here. I love what you’re doing and I wish there was a written post that explains your 2020 & 2021 setups so that I can quickly reference and adopt some of your ideas into my own book. Keep up the awesome work!!!

Brian, I loved your flip through. It's nice seeing a face rather than just someone's hands. Your dog made me laugh out loud. So relatable. As a fellow ADHDer, I am amazed at your system and feeling so hopeful now! Digital systems haven't worked for me either for the same reasons. I've been searching for ways to make bullet journaling practical in a work environment and have just started learning GTD. This is by far the best video I've found yet at merging BuJo and GTD. Your spread with "Realizations" and "Weekly Template" were lightbulb moments for me. I stopped the video and scheduled a reminder to add both of these to mine! Thanks so much!

Wow! I have seen a series of GTD + BuJo (in Spanish), and 2 other videos in English. I am a huge procrastinator but I have read both David Allen's GTD and Ryder Carroll Bullet Journal books, so I am aware of the theory. Those other videos didn't get what are those methods, specially GTD. They are just pretty notebooks with tasks on them. You combined the two super well, I definitely got a lot of breakthroughs with your video. Suscribed already!

Such a helpful video - I've just finished reading GTD and I started bullet journaling last year but I was struggling to figure out how I could manage projects and connect them to waiting for and next action lists - having your project tasks as a collection makes so much sense and I really like your threading method too. Really helpful! Off to watch your second vid on this now :)

First time watching one of your videos. New subscriber now. Im going through your videos now. I think I’ll go to the most recent and work backwards. ✳️ My bullet journal has become my annual planner. I’m retired. It stays at home. I use a graph composition notebook and plan out my monthly and weekly spreads. My collection pages are in the back and are mostly related to my projects. My whole year fits in this 200 page notebook. I’ve used the bullet journal method since 2016. I’ve developed my own method for incorporating Allen’s GTD processes. I use my Google calendar- and a wall calendar. My weeks are fairly routine. ✳️ My weekly spread is a combination of dailies and the week. ➡️ Left side page is the dailies. I don’t need a lot of space. I split the page in half vertically. Left side of the daily page is to Dos. Right side of the daily page is Appointments. I split the page horizontally into 7 sections. This gives me about 6 lines for each day. ➡️ Right side page is the weekly - set out in sections: Weekly Routine, Zone Cleaning tasks, To Do List, Errands, Desk Work, Calls & Scheduling, Waiting For, Notes. ✳️ I was a planner in my 34 year career. I used the Franklin Covey method for many years. I haven’t heard of the Frankenlog or the Alistaire method and I’m intrigued.

Awesome set up! I am glad you went back to your original future. David Allen monthly only includes day specifics task or time specific events.. I would recommend that you have 2 books with the second book holds your projects notes and meeting notes. FYI.. your voice is fine..most planner video are done with us only seeing your hands and book. you don't need to turn it to you because we most of us like to look at your journal while you talk. point to what you are talking about. awesome

Fantastic, I've also been trying to merge GTD and Bullet Journal and this provided confidence that I'm on the right track. Here's my KEY GTD -> Bullet Journal Project = Collection Spread @location Next Actions = Collection Spread Someday / Maybe = Collection Spread 1. Capture = Rapid Logging 2. Clarify = Daily Log 3. Organize = Index 4. Reflect = Weekly Review 5. Engage = Do the things! Check off actions, update projects, repeat process So like you I have a lot of collections some of which are a two page spread with only one action or reference to a project on another spread. A Note about capturing: I transfer anything that takes 2 minutes or longer in Rapid Logging from any source. Email, Basecamp, Evernote, Text Messages, Microsoft Teams, Twitter. If its important and takes longer than 2 minutes I make a note of it even if it just points back to Basecamp Project or email thread.

Hi Joseph, do you "capture" in a separate place from your daily log? I also use my daily log to "clarify" and I'm playing around with using a disc bound journal so that I can remove the rapid logging "Inbox/Capture" pages after I have processed them. Would love to hear thoughts from either of you!

@BrianHazardVideos 2 жыл бұрын
@@amandavanerp wow, I totally missed this question from you! Unless I'm in a meeting or actively working on a specific project (and therefore have that project's collection spread open in front of me), I always put stuff right into the dirty dailies and then sort them later - either the end of the day or the next morning. Most of the time I prefer this because it is frictionless, meaning I don't have to spend any time/energy trying to decide where to put something. 👍

I would really love to see a video of how you have set up your bujo. As someone who is just starting I was really overwhelmed with the whole idea. When I found your frankelog/frankenlite (especially your latest version) it really inspired me to think that I can definitely do this too! I’ve been trying to recreate your system since it looks like it will really work for me too but I want quite sure how to start with the frankenlite and everything else. If you made one long video explaining your whole system, that would be amazingly helpful to not just me, but I bet many other individuals with ADHD who may somehow stumble on your channel, as I did. Whether or not you end up making that long video explaining everything or not, thank you for all you’ve done so far! In the meanwhile I will just jump around the various videos you have to piece everything together (which I’ll be honest with you, is super helpful already). I just noticed I used the word helpful a bunch of time... meh, so be it. Keep up the great work!

I FOUND IT!! I knew you did a video!! Okay so question, my bujo brother, for your context lists, do you migrate things from there to your monthly log and then to your dirty dailies? And when you do that, do you cross them off in your context list? Then, I assume if you have something that you need to do for your home, you'll just drop that into the context list and it will lay there until you put it into your monthly/daily log? I am thinking of doing a trial of this for Feb and seeing how it goes. Oh, and did you get the chance to plan your trip to Japan or did that not happen because of COVID?
@BrianHazardVideos
@BrianHazardVideos 3 жыл бұрын
Most of the time, anything new goes into my daily logs first and then will get moved to the appropriate context list if it doesn't get done the same day. When I take things from my context list and put it in my daily log because I think it will get done that day, I don't really make any changes to the item on the actual context list because I want to see it there and know that it hasn't been done yet. I can't think of an occasion when I move something from my context lists into my monthly log.

Literally the shooting gave me a headache, but I watched the whole thing because I am very curious about marrying my GTD and BuJo. I feel like you did not have a future log that could be a trickle file, maybe I am remembering wrong, but how are you handling trickle data? Also, to be honest about my experience, this convinced me I do want a digital task manager, but also make me more confident in marrying a BuJo as an inbox, constant thought dump. Also, might try manual for a while before I feel more confident that I won't dump to much into my digital task manager and clog it up too much.
@BrianHazardVideos
@BrianHazardVideos 3 жыл бұрын
I haven't found a great need for a physical tickler file because my system allows me to note the date I'll need something and also note where I've put it. So if I need a document on the 5th, I can just note that on that date in my Frankenlog, then use a signifier or note to tell me where the document is stored. If the document or item is digital, I will use Gmail's "Send Later" feature by attaching the document to an email then sending it to myself so that it arrives in my email inbox exactly on the date I'll need it. Usually I'll put relevant notes in the email body to remind myself what it's about. Sorry about the headache. 😂

Sure. My key is half standard BuJo, half symbols I use for GTD. @ symbols are for GTD contexts or agendas, pretty much anything related to GTD. I have a particular symbol I use for indicating that I have stashed something in the back journal pocket. I also use P, A, and R for Project Support Materials, Action Support Materials, and Reference Materials. If there's a square around the letter, it's in a digital form of those files. If a circle, then the stuff is analog, e.g. my Action Support bin or my file cabinet at work. Oh, and if something is related to an email, I flag/star the email and put a star with an E next to it after a task to remind me to look at the email.
