@recoveringsoul7553 жыл бұрын
Low Expectations would be good too. I have "planned" for decades successfully, but not this bujo stuff. First attempt was 2020 and I found it annoying that the pages were not pre-dated and I had to waste tons of time drawing my own calendars. Some pages were pre-filled at the beginning, about 6 months worth. But I had to just journal on blank pages because I needed to write more stuff there. Then I was able to make the 2nd half work a little better. Finally figured out I could do my own art instead of the crappy looking flowers they had. Spent lot of time with the doodles, trying to think of stuff to draw. And had to draw forest fires, dams breaking, hurricanes, murder hornets, prisoners getting out of jail free, all kinds of high strangeness. I wanted to record reality, not some pretty little lies. I'm thinking of using a mob with torches and pitchforks for the "protests" but I saved a spot for that in June, and I was remembering my father and it's a happy page right now, I hate to ruin it with ugliness. Maybe I'll cover it with a post it.

How do you keep up with taking notes in class and changing pens and using highlighters?
@ioanahayman7 жыл бұрын
I've never had trouble keeping up because I always only write with pens at first, and then at home or at some later time I go in with highlighters. So the focus during lectures is to simply get the material down via pen! Of course, if the teacher goes super fast it's harder - but typically if they go fast it's a material-heavy class with less charts, so I'll be taking typed notes for those types of classes.
@MaryamShehab7 жыл бұрын
Mistral Spirit I got that👌🏼 when u say typed....you mean ready printed ones or like literally typing them with ur laptop? Also, have you done a notes taking video yet? Thank you in advance❤️!

I mean typing them on my laptop! Though some teachers just provide notes already online - so I just reformat them and print. I have actually, for handwritten notes (not for typed notes yet). kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXjJZKCarKl1qcU

When I went to school typing notes or recording lectures wasn't an option. I had to write and being a math major, well, typing doesn't work when you need to write graphs and formulas and weird symbols I cant' find on the keyboard. When I broke my arm I had to learn to write with my non-dominant hand. In 6 weeks my handwriting looked about the same by the time the cast came off. Calculus, Statistics, Linear Algebra and Differential equations, Computer science schematics and Programming languages, Flow charts; I cant' type that kind of thing. My notes were a mess. I've heard you remember it better if you write it down in class, then re-write it neater after class to keep. Use that to study from. Her notes and handwriting is SO NEAT!! Like typing, wow. Sometimes I couldn't even read my own stuff. Plus the added stress of trying to get it jotted down before the professor erased it... Same problem with Chemistry, physics all those types of subjects. I love writing for myself, but not term papers, and being a math major was my way of avoiding having to write papers. haha Studying Music would be the same thing. Even logic and critical thinking required weird formulas and symbols not used in normal math. Astronomy.... I'm an oddball. Had to include doodles and charts and diagrams in my notes.

You should do a "1 month in my bullet journal" series! That way you can show exactly how you use you bullet jpurnal and your notebook together.
@ioanahayman7 жыл бұрын
Hmm, that would be cool! How does that work, is it filming every day what I do? I'm worried that'll be too long and people won't be interested (even this video was super long and rambly I think - maybe I'm just overly critical) 😜
@purpledoneright7 жыл бұрын
Mistral Spirit you should look up boho berry in youtube she just finished a 1 month in her bullet journal series, just to give you an idea. But if it was me I would plan in the morning, review at night, film anything significant during the day, and edit it all together. But I really like the idea of you showing how you use your 2 books together, and some note taking..... I think you could do a 10 to 20 minute video everyday (depending on the day) and it wouldn't be too long and very interesting. The nice thing about doing a video everyday is you don't have to explain everything at once.

You really inspired me to start a bullet journal. BUT, I'll start it in 2018. Firstly, I hate starting in the middle of something, or starting a new journal before I finished the old one. Secondly I don't know if I'll really do it. Right now I'm super excited about it but I can imagine that in a few weeks I won't be that into it anymore ;D So I made a plan! If I'm still into it a month or two from now, I'll buy one, prepare 2018 and then I'll give it a try. If not, then I didn't waste the money. I actually started something like a bullet journal last year and I managed to keep it till February, which always makes me feel bad. So this time I need a concept so I won't be overwhelmed :)

Thanks for walking me through your bujo. Just a suggestion about your symbol/key page that you have taped in behind your apocolist page. You might consider creating a barn door that flips out beyond the margin (like you've done) but instead of arranging the list from inside the fold to out (like a list you've pasted in from another book) try listingthe symbols down the swing out left margin so that you can leave it folded out to reference while you turn the pages and use the symbols. For your color codes, make a small barn door that flips up beyond the top margin the same way we've done the symbol key barn door. I love how you use your monthly spread as a memories diary. I like the fact that you have 2 books for different purposes. I have a set of messy 400'page note-taking journals that last about a year, so at the end of each year i can write the year on the bottom edge and add the book to my stack of identical journal books. I need to get a bullet journal, like you've done, to put my organized thoughts into in a way that helps me archive and retrieve the important things that will guide and motivate me to change / improve myself. I like that your bujo is future looking and purposeful. Your bujo looks beautiful, you are very artistic, but you don't ket your art take over. One thing I've gotten for myself is a pack of full sheet blank sticker paper that i use to make computer-generated elements to stick into the journal. If you have a particular element that you want to use in your journal, but dont want to redraw every instance, print a sticker page full of those elements, and just peel and stick them into your journal. These custom stickers also work great for covering mistakes or reusing areas you dont love. The great thing about full page sticker paper is you don't need to use it just for computer generated elements. You can also use it to draw and color an element by hand to cut and paste into you journal.

This is a GREAT journal! I'm definitely older than you, but I'm learning some better organizational ideas. Also appreciate your note taking segment. Cornell Notes are a great method and I can't wait to see how you approach that. Hopefully will get some great tips before I start a doctoral program this spring!
