If you coming during winter time, I would recommend Hainan island, it is a nice tropical island to escape the harsh winter. My parents spend 4 month in Hainan every winter. As you from Norway, I think you probably can skip the icy scenery from northern China😂

Stations like Chengdu are huge, but you have to consider it serves +20million people, which is like a medium size European country. What is impressive though is the actual Hi-Speed network, that spans the entire country (similar size to Europe) and the goverment goal is to connect any city with a 1million plus population.

You have german trains in China actually, CRH3 Hexie is a version of a Siemens train. The newest model, the CRH 400 is just wow, smooth, quiet and a soft ride. China built the most impressive rail network, which is the most modern in the world, in addition to one of the most advanced train sets. The comfort onboard is without comparison, the best.
