why didn't you just leave the rubber mat in place and drill through it?

because the mount has to adhere to the hard plastic , the rubber mat would not give a firm surface to adhere to and leave room for getting loose in the future. he followed the instructions.

My son uses Apple car play, and he doesn't put his phone in the holder. He puts it in the center console. So that would depend on your preference.

Have you experienced any problems with vibration with the phone holder? Is your center section that you took out fit snug back in after you took it out?

No. I haven't had any issues with vibration. Yes, the center section goes in snug, and the screws hold it tightly in place.
