Basil hybrids are awesome! You can get some wild crosses depending on the species you plant near each other. Over the years we have grown some hybrids that can endure temperatures down into the high 30s and low 40s with minimal protection from overnight frosts. I've grown a few varieties of basil that I thought were stone cold dead from cold weather only to discover if treated right some of them sprung back to life. Obviously, we try to breed those genes into less hardy basil varieties, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. But now a days there are some varieties that do pretty well in cooler temperatures. But prolonged frost is always a problem.

Im growing wild magic this year, i think my wild magic may have been crossed with a purple basil, it has bigger leaves and a bit of a different structure while growing, i will agree it has a much stronger basil taste than the african blue or sweet tai basil i grow beside it.

Is wild magic some type of hybrid basil? Is there any history of what basil it descends from?

I’m curious about this too. I haven’t found the info yet. I’m growing it right now and the flowers smell incredible. It has a sweet fruity smell that spreads throughout a room when I rub the flowers.

Yes, they like all Basil blooms, but they greatly prefer the wild magic if it’s there to choose from.
