I hunt in south Florida, and I used to have a savage axis. Although it was dead accurate I had to buy a trigger kit from MCarbo to reduce the pull, had many failures to extract, and sadly it rusted almost completely brown after my 9th day in the humid swamps. Because of the excessive amount of rusting I no longer felt safe shooting it, and in total only owned the gun for 6 months from brand new to un-fireable.

If You come from a Family that hunts(You probably get a hand down rifle)(I still use a 30-30 Win), or are a New Hunter, and want to get Your 1St Rifle, Both are appealing. But Today It's Odd, that you only got $$500 to buy a new rifle. Ok. I'm Old and used to have $$ back in the day I Bought a BLR in 7-08 for $450 with a extra mag and scope bases(And I used to earn under $1,5 K a month)(And got Super fine Leupold 1.5 x6 from Cabela's Cost me another $400) to buy a decent M70 or Ruger 77. @04busariderАй бұрын
First gen axis vs current gen is not an "apples to apples" comparison...you're comparing a rifle that released 14 years ago to a rifle that just come out 1 year ago. You shoot the first gen model of the savage axis but show pics of specs on the new gen savage axis 2 which has a better stock and accu trigger which is 10x better than the standard savage axis trigger. They have changed the design of the stock twice since the savage used here. They also redesigned the bolt knob on the new gen savage axis...not sure if its anything else with the bolt or just the handle. The results may not have been any different but this is definitely not an accurate comparison and kinda misleading the way the video was put together.

At this time, Savage buyers have no idea what they are getting when we purchase any Savage Axis. Did Savage mix and match their entire Axis line.??

@Exsesss .. this is not what the new advertisements are showing and saying.. The Savage ads are very confusing.. from what I'm getting from Savage ads, they are only going to have one Axis line.. and no more accutrigger. "I think".. The Shooter's Bible 116 Edition doesn't have these changes.. As a matter of fact the New Shooter's Bible basically looks like the publisher just uses the old version and changed the page number.. Ballistic.. same old, same old... no 300prc.. no 6.5prc.. no 6.8 Western .. no, a lot of things.. ANYWAY.. Savage, I think, eliminated some of their lines.

My nephew has the Ruger Gen II and he doesn’t have a problem with it digging in his back shoulder. We hunted all week this last season, and not once did he mention or complain. I’ve strapped his rifle over my shoulder and I felt nothing, nor did my brother in law. The rifle is relatively light weight and it’s easy to pack around. I liked the check comb and the texture of the stock. It was very accurate. All in all, I thought it was a great buy. I just ordered the new Savage Axis II Pro for my wife. They come with a left handed option, so I’m excited to receive it, mount a scope, and take it to the range. She wanted the woodland camo pattern, which I think it’s a really good looking rifle. I might break down and pick up the same rifle, but with the desert camo of it shots as well as it looks. It’s a Savage, so I’m expecting good results once it’s broken in.

I'm a Ruger fan, but for all the improvements on the Gen2, they failed too miserably on a very critical feature and spent money on making a twizzler out of the barrel which I think is ugly. I'm more of a CRF action, Hawkeye person generally. Cost a lot more, but I'd rather buy a rifle I can admire than buying several clunkers that have annoying features.
