I remember when Joker was came out in October 2019. Warner Bros leading up to its release were so worried it was going to influence copycat violence and as a result nearly pulled it from their schedule. Who would have known the influence it ended up having on it's audience was more fun and peaceful - everyone having watched it just want to go visit and dance on the steps in New York instead!
@orinorio1

@@orinorio1 I remember seeing 'Joker' on opening night. I knew going in this wasn't a Blockbuster, we have what I call ''The Avengers/Blockbuster'' crowd in the showing though, when they came out you could tell they couldn't believe what they have just gone and seen. A film about male mental health essential.
@orinorio1

@@thekingofoldskool2 😆 yeah. During the movie I was just shaking my head. It was the first movie I felt like walking out. I stayed and found myself trying to stay awake. For me it was just a dull over the top movie. When the dancing started I burst out laughing at what I was seeing. I left thinking that I didn't see a movie about the Joker I saw a movie about a man boy who wears make up and wants to be femous and loved by everyone. That's not the Joker I had in mind. Like you said the movie inspired people to dress up and dance. Again not the Joker I had in mind lol

@@orinorio1yeah, it’s really crass when you think about how they came up with the idea. Essentially they made a movie with zero respect for the source material, which would be fine on its own, but the “original” stuff they brought to it was all lifted from way better movies. Aside from Phoenix’s performance, it’s just an incredibly hollow experience from start to finish. It isn’t truly the Joker and isn’t truly a well thought-out or original idea either. It’s just a clever cash-grab honestly.
@orinorio1
@orinorio1 6 ай бұрын
@@STRANGEANATOMYBAND I think Todd wrote a movie about a guy with mental issues. It was never about DC or anything to do with a comic book or the Joker. The studios made it about that as it would make money like you said playing of the Joker name. Also felt it was a movie all about QP. His movie to show how over the top he can be. Was so he can get an Oscer.

Leto frequently seems to go overboard and doesn't really live up to the expectations he sets. Still, he can be very good at a role that is written and directed well, at very least...a Joker/Harley movie with him and Robbie would interest me, depending on the director and writer.

The Joker was never supposed to be sympathized with, or understood. Point of fact, he is antithetical to understanding, reason and empathy. That's why his multiple backstories in the comics work so well. Todd Philips exploited a cultural phenomenon, only to then blatantly crib someone else's work. So, I've never seen Joker as culturally impactful as the fans of the film have. I WISH Scorsese directed Joker, because he wouldn't have ripped off his own work, and made something more original. Joker (2019) is about as original as "AI generated media", in that it's not that original at all. Art is about courage and challenges, and I see no courage or challenge in stealing other people's work. Without the gravity of Scorsese prior work, you'd just be left with more bro-centric films like the Hangover or Road Trip: movies that lack any real artistic value outside of shock value & memes. Romanticizing mental illness & trauma as a justification for violence and perpetuated trauma is always a lame & predictable "edge lord" move. It's juvenile, as much as it is harmful to those of us who actually have metal health issues & trauma. Then again, we're talking about the person who asked John Wayne Gacy personally to create a movie poster for him just for the controversy and "edginess". He's about as edgy as a Hot Topic sales rack.

You're correct. the joker movie is gargabe. it has NOTHING to do with the Joker. it's like a student drama film (with a big budget) about a random mentally ill guy, with the Joker name slapped on it to sell tickets. not to mention it's just a copy paste of previously made movies by other more talented film makers.

Being grounded is what truly made this film work. And I’m saying that as a comic book fan. I don’t mind if SOME changes are made so long as they serve and respect the source material. This was a great example of that happening. It was almost reading one of those one-off stories that meant to be its own, self-contained thing.

I have a love hate relationship with SS and Leto's Joker. Honestly i really liked the modernized take on the gangster idea of joker instead of using 1920s mobster inspiration, 90s and 00s SoCal gang culture. His look substantially grew on me. But his presence in the film, the writing, and conflict reports of his antics just kills the enthusiasm. Leto can do some great work when he's motivated and focused by the script and edit but SS lacked those. First Im hearing about a Joker+Harley follow up to BOP and that legit sounds interesting if the DCEU wasnt already in full blown meltdown by that point

You know it’s funny about Leo’s. No superhero movies is his acting style. Wouldn’t make him believable in a superhero movie. His acting abilities wouldn’t Work in a superhero movie

Given that Joker was more like Taxi Driver & The King Of Comedy, Martin Scorsese doing Joker with Willem Dafoe as The Joker would've been perfect. Willem Dafoe's Joker would've been perfect to go against Ben Affleck's Batman.

The Joker movie is the one an only movie i feel asleep to in the cinema. Before that i laught at how cringe the scene was. A few face palm's..i was expecting to see a movie about a Man who was normal and doing his best and life just kept hurting him until he cracked. What i watch was a movie about a man boy with daddy issues who wanted to be loved by everyone who got angery when he didn't get what he want..the dancing scenes 😂😂😂😂😂😂 my head im thinking is this a pantomime? I get it though how people will like this movie as its really the first movie of the Joker that people can relate to and feel sorry for. The over sensitive depress poor me style matches most guys and girls today. I wanted a movie that you see Arthur Fleck being a normal everyday man. Doing is best to look after his wife and unborn child. And when he loses her and the baby he cries and then starts to laugh and there the Joker is born. A Joker that wants to show everyone that with a push everyone can go mad..

But that's stupid and unrealistic. A normal guy with no mental issues wouldn't snap and go on a killing spree cause something bad happened to him. You think irl mass killers like Adam Lanza were just happy go lucky everyday guys? Your idea sounds corny as hell

@@dead-mf2iu you ever watch the Dark Night ? Wanna know I got these scares? You ever watch Breaking Bad ? Walter White being a school teacher and ends up being who becomes? Both the movie and series I mention is based on the idea of a normal guy who lost it. So is the Dark Night and Breaking Bad corny shows. ?

@@orinorio1 TDK Joker is lying in those stories and Walter White is basically an anti hero who progressively becomes a ruthless druglord over 5 seasons. Walter didn't get a cancer diagnosis and then start shooting a bunch of random people right after
@orinorio1
@orinorio1 6 ай бұрын
@@dead-mf2iu ahh Walter got Cancer ment Jesse went to cook and killed one guy and held another guy captive even before he told his wife he had cancer. Your also missing the point. What made breaking bad so good was how you watched a normal family man turn into a drug lord. You saw how he became. If you go watch the killing Joke Aruther Fleck is not a depress guy with mental issues. He is working man married with a child on the way. Even though he is the red hood and does petty crime he is still a good guy. When he loses everything that's when he snaps and becomes the Joker. Arthur became the Joker same as how Bruce becomes batman. Wasn't as if a young Bruce was dressing up as bat and saying he would be batman when he grews ups.

Joaquin Phoenix was perfect. The film (even by the most harsh financial standards) made about 5 X what it needed. Sometimes, I just don't want to stab at a film that got it right.

Unpopular opinion, this movie only hurt the joker mythos and in the end doesn't deliver on its promise as a proper joker movie

Let's make this a regular thing. We can loosely adapt all the lesser known Scorsese classics with DC characters. Means Streets of Gotham, The Last Temptation of Superman, Wonder Woman Doesn't Live Here Anymore. It'll be sick.

If Leonardo DiCaprio would be a joker he has to be the Gangster joker. Not laughing too much, but his plans are hilariously sinister like 80s joker.

Oh I never really noticed but i seems a lot like a movie wich Scorcese would direct..dispite the comicbook aspect wich for me made it a masterpiece..and even so..a comicmovie could win an oscar..me as a comicbook lover my whole life had never dreamt of this.. For Di Caprio: he would fit in like some kind of a sleazy corrupt bankdirector or a top criminal..if he is cast..letś say give him the role of christoffer walken in batman returns

The clown prince is of crime. I cringe every time I hear that. Such a convoluted and corny way of calling him. The crime jester would make more sense, although still lame.

I liked Joker despite it being basically a remake (I hadn’t made that connection till I watched this video). I just didn’t like that universe’s Alfred. He was manhandled by scrawny Arthur, when in the comics, he woulda whooped his ass. I know this movie is supposed to be sorta a far cry from the comics but still: it’s Alfred’s essence to be a subtle badass. Then again, it could’ve just been in Arthur’s head.

No secret WB has sucked since Reeves’ 3rd movie but a DCEU solo Batman movie & solo Joker movie would’ve been great. If WB didn’t botch SS1 cutting Leto’s Joker making him more emo. Smfh. DC fans are toxic, Snyder haters or lovers. You don’t see marvel fans getting mad Disney isn’t a direct adaptation of marvel or 616. Why can’t other fans get that not everything has to be a 1:1 of their respective franchises? There’s thousands of DC stories & thousands of marvel stories yet only I see DC fans get mad Snyder did this or that differently. That’s literally Gunn’s shtick. He does a 180° on characters. I like him as a director, his DC & MCU stuff but he’s no head of DC.
