my neighbors have American/pit mix. got him at 8mo. I spooked him right off from behind a tree in my yard and he yelped like I spanked him as he ran to the back door. Now, I have given him treats with permission and he follows me everywhere. Lays down as soon as he sees me. We have a cool bond. Such a brute! we blink at each other to acknowledge from far away. ha, I want one bad. cool dog you have.

wow look at those BEEFY AB's!!!! Just like they should be! Beautiful! Our Johnson Type AB came with NKC papers and he is registered - I have his entire bloodline records that go back many generations. You have to be careful when buying an AB because some people try to sell them as AB's but in reality they have pit or boxer in them. That's why it's always important to buy from a specific breeder who has papers.

Must be the new Olde English buldogge, a fairly new breed made to recreate the original extinct old English bulldog(not to be confused with the English bulldog/British bulldog) it officially got recognized by the AKC as a pure breed in 1/1/14

Tom Smith no too small and doesn't have the right features. Looks to be the Olde English bulldogge. The recreation anyway since they went extinct. But they were the OG bulldog so any new breeds will share features. The Johnsons are very similar but way bigger. My boy is a mix between the two so he looks like this guy but 130 lbs and way taller.

A dog of this kind is unathletic and not able to do any real work. They will be out of gas and lack endurance due to the short nasal cavity and they are too heavy and the shoulders are too wide and does not offer a good support under the body. Imagine a roof with pillars off to the side instead of directly under the load. Which would be less stable? A dogs front legs should be held directly under it and not ever off to the side. Only primates should have shoulders like that. Not anything meant to move on all four legs.

Hey, I have always liked these dogs. I live in Canada however, cold snowy winters. I would like to get a dog as I live in a cabin in the forest. Everything is pointing me towards a German Shepard. Is there anyone who can tell me if a dog like this would be good for semi long stretches on there own in winter. They do not look like a dog that would be good for long periods in the snow.

Dogs like that are a genetic mess. The front legs are too wide and ungainly and unathletic, the muzzle is too flat and the bite has to be inferior. I am not in favor of those Johnson styled dogs. I have witnessed them getting hurt during hog hunts. And I know for certain that they are not even capable of defeating a large male coyote. The bite is too weak and they run out of gas quickly.

That is what you would use a standard American bulldog for this is a house dog at this point with training im sure he would make a great guard dog for a family who wants a couch potato slash house protector and just like this dog would make a bad catch dog a working catch dog wouldn't make a good house pet.

I have owned several performance dogs and our dogs were good living inside with us. The term is "dead game." It is my belief that a dog that's meant to be a farm dog whether that's catch work dealing with hogs or cattle or being on the hunt should also be able to be around farmhands and family without issue.

And without it they can't catch varmints, or ward off predators. Flat faced bowlegged cumbersome dogs are not good for that work. And again what a great dog you got there!

Tom Smith Don't forget Hines .He and Scott bred the ABs with the longer noses, while Johnson eventually bred the shorter nosed ones. After he got out of the service, he started breeding them; he said he got them from the hills in the South, and several of his early dogs had longer snouts. They were large dogs, too.Later he produced the shorter snouted ones. Perhaps he preferred that line, and they became popular but as with any breed that becomes popular, they eventually became bred by backyard breeders who didn't really take care of them.German Shepherds, Dobermans Pinschers and ABPTs are examples of that, and too many breeders are screwing up the breed. I think we can add to the list, Boxer, Dogo Argentino, Tosa Inu, Boerbul, and some of the Mastiff breeds to that list, but I think everyone here is aware of that. Thank you
