The reaction of the woman with the child is a response that all emergency drivers experience from time to time. I think it's a form of the flight/fight/freeze reflex that's the norm for everyone. Any driver on the 9s must keep in mind that they can generate this behaviour and drive accordingly. The woman probably isn't stupid, not a bad parent, and there's nothing wrong with her. She's reacting to a stressor. It's the same as any other reflex in that it is all but instant and all but impossible to stop doing it. It's a responsibility of a 9s driver to avoid accidents. In 30 years as a police officer, most of it on response one way or the other, I've frequently seen such behaviour. It happens, it will continue to happen.
@Person012343 жыл бұрын
Additionally she realised her mistake before it could become serious and stopped well short of the path of the ambulance even if the driver hadn't been aware of the danger. This was simply a misjudgement of distance/speed, something I think we've all done from time to time and a reaction to "what everyone else was doing" which is a pretty strong influencer of human behaviour especially in a tight situation. The only real issue I have is with potential lack of awareness from pedestrians. Though hearing sirens in a city is not a reason to drop everything you're doing, it seemed like the majority of those pedestrians were not aware of the proximity of the ambulance or it's intended direction (perhaps it was obscured by traffic?) before they started crossing and they should have been paying more attention and not just going because the light went green. But let's be real that's a pretty normal thing for people to do. And ultimately everyone managed to clear the area in front of the ambulance, there were several layers here that prevented an accident. All these people writing nasty comments need to look at themselves in a mirror. This could have been almost any of them on another day in another place, I guarantee it.
@Rob23 жыл бұрын
Yes and it is parly caused by the volume of the sirens, which in turn probably is required because of people wearing headphones. Making such a loud sound meters away from a pedestrian (who already started crossing the street before the siren was turned on) is not going to work out well.

Did you people even watch the video? It appears, since everyone started crossing, that the pedestrian lights turned green. They could hear an emergency vehicle for sure but that's not exactly uncommon in a lot of cities and it appears most people didn't notice it or realise where it was going. So people started to cross. Some of them then saw the ambulance and that it was coming their way. They ran to get across and out of the road and out of the way (a fairly natural reaction in the heat of the moment even if it would be better to stop). This lady misjudged the distance and followed suit, but then realised she wouldn't make it and stopped herself and her kid in time. At worse this is a case of being not adequately aware of your surroundings and a bad timing decision regarding traffic. She's not blameless, she exercised poor judgement, but she's also not satan incarnate. Some of these comments are pretty disgraceful and I bet this woman could be any one of you people in different circumstances.

Garbage. There was clearly a green light for the pedestrians, and they'd already started on their way before they knew where the ambulance was, and were caught half way and were trying to get out of the way. As it is, it is 100% the responsibility of emergency vehicle drivers going through red lights to do so safely, especially when there are other vulnerable road users out there. Nobody takes a test to be a pedestrian, and when faced with an unexpected situation, people will not always do the right thing on the spur of the moment. Emergency service drivers are specially trained for this. They do it everyday, whilst the same is not true of a woman with a child. So many sanctimonious know-it-all judgemental people in these comments.

Great video, good reaction by the paramedic must of been a critical emergency for them to be driving like that as for pedestrians regardless of the fact they had green light the RRV had its tones on before it even was anywhere near the crossing and could be clearly seen and heard this is why I will never cross when I see or hear an emergency vehicle even if it approaches from the other way you should still always be cautious as it may have to use oncoming lanes to reach the emergency, if the child got hit the paramedics would give basic aid to the child until a second crew can takeover as they would be interviewed by police and such and could easily make a mistake during treatment due to the shock of the incident

If you run in front of an emergency vehicle going to an emergency, don't complain if you become a speed bump.

If she was at a crossing and the lights turn red for the traffic to stop ,then it's natural to start crossing especially if they're slow changing lights obviously couldn't run fast enough I usually can make it by running like the clappers

@stalker52993 жыл бұрын
In the UK they use the wailing siren, have done for decades, mainland europe mainly uses the hi lo sirens but wailing ones are used sometimes, its a different setting for them :)
@Ooog__3 жыл бұрын
no, because European sirens are better, they can be heard from further away unlike the American sirens which are louder but cant be heard from as far away

I don't understand why all emergency services vehicles in the UK use only blue lights. Fire, Police and Ambulance all using blue. It would be better for Fire to at least have some red lights on their trucks. Here in New Zealand only the Police use blue, and even then they have red as well. Fire uses only red (no blue, but sometimes white as well as red) and Ambulances use red and white.

Different rules different regulations. Blue strobe lights are for emergency use only, and must be given way to. Red lights are stop/brake lights while static, and can only be displayed on the rear of a vehicle. If the red light is a strobe flashing light, then it can be used by emergency vehicles on the rear of the vehicle to indicate an emergency vehicle stopped, such as a police car blocking traffic. White lights are forward facing only with exception of reverse light. Doctors can use a green flashing strobe light and carry the same weight as a blue light.

@@RawbHall Green lights do not have the same "rights" as blue. Like amber lights, green lights afford the vehicle no special priority, and the driver is expected to adhere to all current traffic rules such as speed limits and traffic lights.
@pauldavison71053 жыл бұрын
Blue so as to be different to other lights on a car so they can be easy made out in traffic. They are all emergency vehicles so no need to differentiate between them with different colours as it serves no purpose.
