When I was stationed in Vietnam (68-69), my buddy and I took a flight on a Thai medevac plane to Bangkok for a weekend. One of the highlights was going to a theatre that had this movie. It rivaled any of the best theaters in NYC. We were the only Americans in it. It had waiters taking food and beer orders! When this chase came on, all the Thai people (mostly guys) were standing up and cheering! After I came home in '60, I bought a used 3 year old Dodge Charger, 440 SLE. The body was White and the roof was White. I had it up to 140 mph one night on a straight stretch of highway in South NJ. No one was on the road but I finally eased off on it. There was plenty of power left! Cheers, Bob

I think that most people who have seen this movie have to agree that not only is this the best car chase ever filmed, it has a hood story to go with it. I think that is some of what’s missing in todays films, especially if it is one like this. First, there is the quality of actors, there is just no substitute. Even if you could make a updated version of this movie using the same cars and all, it just wouldn’t be the same. Things were just different, I was 10 when this movie came out. Had no idea of it then, but now it is one movie that just can’t be duplicated. Even some older films like this one don’t even come close.

I used to use this in a university course in writing plays - this is a perfect example of a three -act play. Beginning, middle and end. Set up, protagonist - Steve - tries and tries, fails (motorcycle), act three is the finale and protagonist wins. Note that each car has a " voice" and they cut back and forth from voice to voice. Brilliant. The Gold Standard for all car chases.
