Bull rope pads aren't required, however they do make it more comfortable on your hand.

+Bull Rider Coach good info for anybody that wants to ride a bull. I used to ride and won't ever again. Too old, too tall, and got banged up badly once. I wish I had seen your video 30 years ago. It would have saved me a LOT of pain. Not saying I wouldn't have done it because I would have. For anybody that wants to try it please listen to the advice of experienced professionals. Seek them out and talk to them for pointers. Most real cowboys are willing to help a new guy as long as they're respectful and listen.

Could you explain what rosin is and how to apply it.

Rosin is a substance made from tree sap and mixed with glycerin. You put a small amount onto your glove and then pull your hand down to create friction and heat. the rosin then gets sticky. You apply it before you ride and then can reheat it when you are in the chute. This is what riders are doing in chute before they ride when they are rubbing their gloved hand up and down the rope tail.

yes, there are special leather gloves you have to wear. if you didn’t wear it, rosin wouldn’t work hardly and you would get some nasty blisters on your hand
