And, back then, athletes and celebrities weren't talking about their political affiliations, or trying to tell the population how to think and vote. Entertainment was entertainment, and people went out and simply voted their conscience. There was virtually no one calling anyone racist, at least not on a national level, and more people were content, and happy. Back before social media, when families and friends still had good face time, and watched sports and movies together, and there was no sexual agenda shoved down the throats of anyone. I miss those days. I spent MANY a Sunday watching the NBA on NBC. All the neighborhood guys would always get together on Sunday, and play basketball, but we'd always knock it off in time to watch NBA on NBC. Memories....

Yes we've seen teammates scored 40 plus points in the same game, it's only happened about 10 times in NBA history though. What stands out even more to me is the opponent the Bulls accomplished this against, you're talking about a very good Indiana team with an excellent defense, so it's not like MJ & Pip accomplished this against some bottom feeder team in the league, far from it, and that makes this accomplishment all the more impressive. The fact that Worm also grabbed 20 rebounds makes this even more rare, two players with 40 points and another with 20 rebounds in the same game, UNREAL.

It's much easier to score when that's all you do, but it's much harder to have the ability to score when you exert as much energy on the defensive end like Pip and MJ did. I can't believe how bad people talk about Kobe and Lebron when Jordan had better talent than either of them.
@Shermstyle2310 жыл бұрын
Better talent?! Let's look at who they played with. MJ has played with 3 All Stars Pippen, Horace Grant & Rodman. Kobe has played with Shaq (arguably the most dominant C of all time), Karl Malone, Gary Payton, Steve Nash, Eddie Jones, Ron Artest, Nick Van Exel, Isiah Rider, Rodman, Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol, Cedric Ceballos, Glen Rice & that is just All Stars & Hall of Famers. We haven't even mentioned great role players like Fisher, Horry, Vujacic, Fox, Byron Scott, etc... Last year, the Lakers had 5 players who had been All Stars on the starting lineup. Lebron has played with Wade, Bosh, Ray Allen, Juwan Howard, Jerry Stackhouse & Mike Bibby. Not as much as Kobe but more than MJ. People fail to realize that MJ won with a team that had great role players but not as much talent as what Kobe & Lebron have had on one roster. Kobe has been surrounded by ridiculous amounts of talent. 5 All Stars on the starting lineup last year. 4 Hall of famers in the starting lineup with Shaq, Payton, Malone & himself. Shaq was by far the most dominant C in his time during the league. Kobe even had Glen Rice & Isiah Rider coming off the bench. One player who did more with less talent is Allen Iverson as he was the only All Star on his team besides Dikembe who was a defensive specialist.
@jcanimus670010 жыл бұрын
I want to completely destroy your argument but I realize you're sucking MJ off wayyyy to hard for it to matter. Lol great role players Vujacic, Fox, BIBBY LMAO.
@Shermstyle2310 жыл бұрын
Try and destroy the argument! You're talking about 3 HOFs MJ played with compared to Kobe's 4 HOFs in one year and 11 + All Stars that Kobe has played with his entire career. Kobe has played with players who could score 20+ppg and SHAQ! MJ ever have a SHAQ or a even a C half the dominance of SHAQ?! Only people who dont have an argument don't say anything. You just said you would do something but you really cant. Why even say post if you really have nothing to say?! NEXT!!!
@Shermstyle2310 жыл бұрын
Tommy Gunz, II Well the whole point is that Kobe has had so much talent surrounding him because he needed that to win. Mj built with what he had, mostly role players. Kobe had All Stars and Hall of Famers. And they even got swept one year when they had the highest payroll, won the ring the year before and 4 All Stars including Kobe himself. That is a ridiculous amount of talent to have played with. MJ played with Pippen, Rodman, Kukoc, BJ Armstrong when he won rings. That is 2 Hall of Famers & one is a defensive/rebound specialist. Kobe had Glen Rice coming off the bench. Can you imagine a team that has Glen Rice coming off the bench?! That is insane. And to Vujacic's credit, he only got few minutes here and there but he always made threes when they needed it. His role was small but he played big during those times.

kevinseveneleven First off assclown I am 39 years, have lived in Chicago all my life and I've seen EVERY game MJ played in for the Bulls. I was 9 when he was drafted in 84 and I have been watching, playing, coaching and officiating ever since. So there are no made up stories here, the fouls committed in the 80's & early 90's were rough and much harder than today and there wasn't all these stare downs and thuggish reactions like today. Rondo is an unintelligent thug who would be working fries at McDonald's or banging if he wasn't good at basketball. That guy and MANY of the players in the last 10-15 get butt hurt when barely touched or feel the need to stare down their opponent after a great play and then start talking while running backwards behind 4 guys trying to look hard. The NBA is a joke today and is full of little wannabe diva thugs.

We quite honestly may never see a team do that well during an NBA season again. That's fucking unreal. I distinctly remember laughing every other day when I checked the stats in the paper, wondering if they'd even hit 70 on the way there. Some announcer said the next season he didn't think it was out of the realm of possibility for them to go perfect. "It's only 10 more games!" But they lost the Finals lol. So the Bulls record still holds significance. Now the Warriors are the greatest regular season team that never won a ring, and yet the Bulls who had the record and now second still won it all.

The only way here in Europe we had to get a signal from NBC was through some late cast =4AM once a week, then all we had was imported VHS at friends home. So those VHS with MJ, Scary33, Rod,Magic, those were revered as the Bible... Now I'm 38 and still go on the playground, and try to teach young players what the Bulls way was, and each time I ear about Kobe, Curry, Lebron... I tell them who the GODS are.

@dlawson68810 жыл бұрын
lol, ok because i see so many thinking the Heat could play with the bulls, let me tell you why you are not only wrong, but shouldn't talk basketball anymore. First, Jordan wouldn't have to guard wade (even though he would at times) Harper would be all over Wade. Jordan would guard Chalmers. So the Heat Back court would struggle. Pippen wouldn't guard Lebron, Rodman would. Bosh would be played by Longley and Pip would guard whoever the Heat put on the floor, lets say Beasly for now. The Heat are most successful playing small ball (Lebron at the 4 and Bosh at the 5) that plays right into the Bulls hands as 1-4 are 6'6' to 6'8'. With Rodman on the boards, the Heat won't get many second chance points. With Jordan and Pip playing lesser players, they will help alot and run the floor for fast break points. Now, the coaching staffs, Phil wins that by a margin we can't measure, so lets move on to the benches. Kerr, Kukoc, Buehler, and caffey are all better players, shooters and passers than anyone on Miami's bench except for Allen who at this stage isn't better than Kukoc. So once, LBJ and Wade got tired, and the subs came in vs the Bulls subs, the lead would grow by about 5 3pointers. Playing by either the 90's or today rules, the Bulls would crush them defensively, if you can put a hand on wade and lebron, they can't use their speed (which is how they get so many and ones), and the basic contact in today's game fustrates them now, just think what those old Knick and Piston teams would have done to these Heat minds! In today's rules, the biggest help for the Bulls would be no hand checking, so MJ and Pip could cut through the Heat pretty easily and they would shoot 15 Free throws a game. From there, another help from todays rules is the Zone defense. Put these great one on one defenders in a zone, you may not get a 3 pointer off.So hopefully this clears those funny thoughts of the Heat being better than the Bulls. Mind you, many of the Bulls records have yet to be broken. In a 7 Game series, I would give the Heat one Game on their home floor 4-1.

Do people realize Pippen had a 48 inch vertical? He was an athletic freak in his own right and had a very polished game. He was extremely gifted. MJ wouldn't have won a single championship without Pippen.
@pheeel179 жыл бұрын
Arturo Luna Pippen was a great athlete, but 48 inch vertical? That's four feet. So at 6'7", that would put the top of his head 7 inches above the rim.

pheeel17 I'm serious, you could just Google it. MJ had 48 inch vert too. Pippen also dunked from near the free throw line, look it up. For reference, Kobe had a 36" vert and LBJ had a 44"

+Arturo Luna Pippen didn't win any championship without MJ when he retired 1994-1995. Just sayin' Basketball is a team effort. All superstars can't win championships on their own. What made the bulls a dynasty was because of their team play and team effort.

I remember watching this game on a Sunday afternoon back in February of 1996. Was only a junior in high school then. Hard to believe this game will be 23 years old next month. Seems like yesterday. Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen both took over this game beginning in the 2nd quarter and put on a scoring clinic against the Pacers. By the way, I do like Indiana's older uniforms. They need to go back to them.

The Heat are a very good team and could give the Bulls trouble because of LBJ & Wade. However, besides having Jordan, Pippen & Kukoc's offense, the 96 Bulls also had the nastiest perimeter defense I have ever seen. When they were cranked up you could hardly get into your offense as they clogged every entry point & passing lane. The Heat are a perimeter team offensively and would play right into Chicago's strength. Additionally, the Bulls had a lot of guys who could switch up and play Wade or LBJ; Jordan, Pippen, Harper & Rodman. As a result they could switch up rotations so much it would hard for Heat players to find their offensive rhythm. Finally don't forget Coach Jackson. Probably the greatest strategist in NBA history. In a 7 game series Bulls would defeat the Heat 4-2.

The Bulls had to face teams like the Pistons & Knicks that liked to play dirty. Pippen and Rodman specially played a little dirty, which the Heat are not accostumed to. It's a whole different game when you can't take aggression and keep focused in the game. Which the Bulls did and won against teams like that. Ask Shaq if he did not lose his mind playing against Rodman.

The difference between great players now and great players back then is that back then, great players cared as much about defense as they did about offense. Jordan was arguably the best offensive and defensive player at many points during his career.

This is what the NBA looked like at its peak. NBC televising games, the legendary music, great announcing, passionate players who put their team before themselves, defense, pure competition in all 4 quarters. It's laughable what the NBA has turned into over the last 20+ years. Today's NBA as much as I love the game of basketball doesn't light a candle compared to the 90s and early 2000s. The game changed when Jordan entered the NBA but he changed it for the better, he put an entire shoe brand on the map that was previously known for only being a track and tennis shoe. Jordan lost his first 6 seasons and instead of jumping ship because he couldn't win on his own he stayed, got stronger, made no excuses and eventually went on to 3-peat twice. Guys today quit too easily and want to join super teams, they get drafted and as soon as their rookie deal is up they sign with an already established team because their pursuit for a title would be easier or some of them demand a trade before their rookie deal is even up and guys get to pick and choose where to be traded to. You cannot call yourself an all-time great if you do that. Jordan didn't take games off because of "load management", he played in every game possible because he knew the fans in the stands paid good money to see him, he craved competition and his team counted on him. It's an embarrassment what the NBA has turned into compared to the era Jordan played in. He set the stage and handed the league over and it slowly got worse. Kobe carried the torch well and he was the last of its kind with that "killer" mentality. With the presence and rise of social media and technology players care more about their brand than they do about the actual game itself.

You know what those teams had back then - work ethic. I look at many of players in today's game and there are many pure players, but no real tough teams. Remember those tough gouging elbowy stingy guys who wanted to do whatever it took to win. Even if that meant coming in to just do one job. Chicago had a great team. A great team with great coaching staff. Jordan, Pippen, Harper, Rodman, Longley. Then Kukoc and Kerr off the bench...!! Please these guys with the exception/deception of Longley and Kerr are close to franchise players. Put em under Jackson and Winter and you got rings.... All the squad whenever interviewed always mention how tough there practices were... I miss the work ethic. Look at the teams Chicago had to beat to win rings as well.. Suns. Sonics. Pacers. Knicks. Rockets. Pistons. Trailblazers. Jazz... All great teams. Sad it seems to have gone. .. (Work ethic means working your ass all the way off at practice, studying for the game, studying your opponents, working on areas of weakness, working on working together..)
