The innuendo might have been better carried off had Bowen paused - to cringe at his own faux pas. In other words, had he stumbled or acted as if he had stumbled embarrassingly into a double entendre or piece of innuendo. Because the real humour lies in the stumbling into it; the proverbial putting your foot in it; or ending up with egg on your face. Instead it all looked here as if the script had been laid down. And perhaps had that been so, then the two girls didn’t think too highly of Jim here. But it’s all in the name of mere light entertainment anyway - something sorely missing today.
