Years ago, I’d do demos. The spotter would flip a board into the air and I’d do a reverse roundhouse kick, hit it, and break it. Every so often tho, I’d hit it bad and launch it at the audience lol

Thank you so much for this. I've been a Martial Artist for 40+ years and I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this, and also unfortunately I've actually seen this in real life. Especially the breaking nonsense and the "Mystical Chi" fighting. I've studied several close quarter fighting systems and a very old traditional style of Kung-Fu when I was very young. BUT I was introduced to boxing first. And when Bruce Lee arrived on the seen and said "if it doesn't work in a fight it doesn't work" I was elated. All my instructors from the very beginning were asked one simple question:"Have you ever REALLY used this in a fight?" If the answer was no I moved on. Lee also was quoted as saying "No amount of land swimming will teach you how to swim, you have to actually get IN the water to really learn." And that is true for a 100 different reasons from timing and distance to addressing the things that scare you most as they are happening. That's why I was happy to see the MMA arrive on the seen. Some real doses of reality in those fights. It exposed some of the inherent flaws in the traditional fighting systems, as well as some of their strong points. Whether it's multiple attackers, knife attack,( Yes a REAL knife), guns, you name it, you have to really face it to learn how to deal with it.I was a hand to hand instructor for the US Gov. for a while, and we used to use guns with blanks in them after a person became more proficient, to teach them not to react to the sound of the gun going off, which can and does happen quite often.It also taught them to do what they do with speed, confidence and authority, for any doubt in those situations can send you to the morgue. In any event thank you again. This was truly entertaining and I really needed the chuckles.
