I recently traveled up to Parkfield, Ca. to talk with Laurie and her Kelpies. Laurie is a rancher, dog trainer, and all around wonderful dog person. Here and her Kelpie live a wonderful life tending to the sheep and cattle on her ranch.
The Australian Kelpie is a reliable and intelligent cow dog. Arguably along with the Border Collie, the Kelpie is considered the preeminent herding dog breed.
The Australian Kelpie, or simply Kelpie, is an Australian sheep dog successful at mustering and droving with little or no guidance. It is a medium-sized dog and comes in a variety of colours. The Kelpie has been exported throughout the world and is used to muster livestock, primarily sheep, cattle and goats.
