I wish we could have had some episodes with Richie and Ralphie together but that was just too much psycho to cram on the small screen. But can you imagine what kind of shit they could have put Tony through if he had to deal with both of them at the same time?

It's unlikely that he would have ever been accepted as boss to begin with. As junior said he wasn't particularly well respected or well liked. If by some stroke of incredible luck he did himself boss, it wouldn't last. He was far too volatile & unhinged to effectively manage an entire organization. He was basically a more unstable & violent version of Ralph but without Ralph's intelligence & business acumen. He'd be taken out and replaced within a couple of years.

Ralphie was a psycho, but he was an intelligent and typically controlled, goal driven psycho. The only time Ralphie lost control in a way which was detrimental to the family is when he killed the stripper. That was plain stupid and extremely irresponsible. Other than that, Ralphie was the only one in the family with enough brains and balls to run the show if Tony was gone.

@OjasOjasOjas3
@OjasOjasOjas3 2 жыл бұрын
Richie has always been a really interesting character to me and honestly I feel like he acts as a walking example (like most characters in the show) of what NOT to do when you're in a situation where someone wronged you. Let's look at it like this. Richies story and first appearance in the show begins in a relatively "respectable" way (as deemed within rules of this thing of theirs). When Richie gets released he's done a stint in the can for 10 years without ratting, stayed loyal to the family, was blood brothers with the universally respected Jackie, had people running successful businesses which he funded before he went to jail, highly respected junior, and on top of it all was actually Tonys senior and could have been extremely respected. Here's where it gets interesting though. Quite honestly when looking at every situation Richie is put in (besides his endgame with Janice), he happens to be completely in the right. When confronting Beansie about points owed to him, RIchie was not being irrational in terms of mafia rules, Beansie owed him in that right because Richie was the one who greenlit his operation to begin with. Richie was also correct in giving Dave Santino a clear warning to not come to any more of his card games after he got a light envelope from him. The issue and irony of these incidents, however, was the 2 R's Richie could never figure out how to implement or gain well: Reaction and Respect. Despite being in the right usually in every situation he was in, Richie reaction is both brutally irrational and extreme. Due to reluctance of giving points he makes Beansie a parapalegic on the spot in front of a crowd on his first day out (instead of resolving the situation with a sit down in which if he stated his case he could have easily been in the favor of the other captains and Tony), he disrespects and costs the family money by attacking Davey at the card game causing high rollers to leave leaving Tony embarrased, and with the combination of these two incidents loses the respect of all the capos and at one point is finds even Junior to be embarrassed by him. Mind you, this behavior and hostility shown and done to Richie is all based on the Beansie incident. Throughout the show Richie shows himself to be one of the most loyal members of the family, even threatening to kill Bevilacqua after he tried to kill Christopher when he could have easily resolved that situation in a different angle, despite knowing deep down that Junior didn't really care about him Richie still tried to make more money by distributing cocaine along the routes not out of stupidity or greed but because he was just trying to put up his points to Junior. Hell, the only reason Richie even remotely hints towards the idea of taking Tony out of that thing of theirs is only because he's quite literally disrespecting Richie's position, his neglect of showing respect he should have given to Richie after getting out for so long, and the fact that he is not allowing Richie or Junior to profit as much as they should all trickling down from the Beansie incident. Richie is a living (not really) example of making sure to go about situations carefully even when the logical initiative is so clearly in your own favor, because reaction is everything. If he just played his cards based on logic and not purely over emotion, he could have been something greater within the show and gained the respect of many members instead of lying dead in front of half warm pasta from a bullet shot by Janice. Just like how Richie shouldn't have gone into the pizzeria on his first day out of jail hot-headed and crippled Beansie despite being clearly in the right, you need to approach situations in life (when even you are the most in the right person in the world) with logical and calculated intent in order to avoid initiating a reckless reaction done out of emotion that can be on levels worse than the disservice that warranted it.
@OjasOjasOjas3
@OjasOjasOjas3 2 жыл бұрын
@@enaquasanitas7017 Richie was most definitely old school and that shined through with his loyalty to the family. Despite knowing Christopher hit his niece and at the time was a low level member compared to him, Richie still put the family before anything else and drives out Bevilacqua before making any decisions on what to do afterwards. Hell, if I remember right it was Richie who actually tipped Pussy and Paulie outside the restaurant about the Bevilacqua location (could be wrong though). I agree with you on the fear factor as well, Richie despite being pretty small in terms of size compared to the other characters, had killer eyes and an unflinching spirit. You could see your reflection through his marble texured eyes with how mentally twisted the mans mental balance appeared to be. It was a known fact that Tony only hired and worked with people who he thought he could control and he tries his hardest to LIMIT Richie (the banning of the coke routes and the refusal to talk to him about business at satriales) but Tony could never directly control Richie and even when he threatened him Richie knew exactly how to react (think of how Richie controlled the interaction between them both at the mall). Even when it came time for Tony to plot out a hit on Richie (due to the information said to him by Junior), he suggested Silvio take care of it over him and it was all due to Tony knowing he couldn't control Richie. He just couldn't get past Richies passion to constantly implement and remind people about the old school ways of that thing of theirs (thankfully he didn't complain about the can as much as phil or talk about the old days as much as feech *almost*). Speaking of the symbolism, Richies inability to move past the negative aspects and evolve the old school state of mind costs him his life. "I'm from the old school. You want to raise your hands you give her your last name." One punch for Janice (like the one attack on Beansie) resulted in 2 bullets (signifying the two R's Richie could never get or change: Respect and Reaction). Richies death also signifies the end of the old school, when he dies so does the last old school capo who had the true family mentality of keeping everyone within the mob first and spreading the money evenly always making sure to give points to your higher up. In fact with the death of Richie more problems than ever sprouted up especially with his absence inciting Jackie Jr. to engage in whatever shenangagins he was up to and Christopher becoming a capo, in a way Richies death (in the same trickle-down effect his fate was from crippling Beansie to later almost being the victim of a major hit) kickstarts the end of true loyalty within the mob.

@@wraynephew6838 exactly, he usually had the right, but always acted wrong. Any money Beansie was funding to the mob (cause i thought he was pitching in to the mob) that Richie felt owed to him should have gone through Tony. He came out on the first day and beat the guy to a pulp, no matter how "right" he was, he acted wrong. Same with the card game, had he taken Tony aside and explained the situation, Tony would have sided with Richie. But since Richie fucked up the game, Tony didn't care about Richie's plight

I think the greatest boss was Jackie and the show even makes a point of showing how everything goes downhill after he dies. Richie makes a great soldier if you can earn his loyality do. Thing is, the show makes it pretty clear that they aren't a "Glorified Crew". That's just bluster from stuck-up NY guys who never say it in front of anybody from Jersey and who bend over backwards to avoid conflict with the DiMeo family cause they bring in boatloads of cash and are capable of significant violence. It's made very clear that the family is much bigger than we ever see. We only see a slice of it that intersects with Tony, his inner circle, and some of his business dealings. The biggest crews in the family get no airtime (other than their Caporegimes...occasionally) and I don't think that's all his crew consisted of or it more than doubled in size fast to become the most profitable. I don't see it. I think his crew had a lot more than that going on. But I still think he'd have burned hot and went out fast if he ever made it to the big seat. He had the wrong temperament. Great for a soldier, horrible for a boss.

She pushed Ralphie down the stairs when he broke up with Rosalie, which was a bad move from the power perspective, that and he'd had to hit Jackie Jr. which made him no friend of the Apriles. She shot Richie because she couldn't nag him into moving against Tony. Then she took up with Bobby, who was a schlub but didn't mind her pushing him toward the top. In the rare event that Ritchie becomes boss what I forsee happening is assuming he survives to 2004 he would make the great miscalculation of having Feech whacked and basically that would lead to some sort of hostile takeover. My guess is Ralphie would become boss because nobody else would have the ambition.

Gotti succeeded in his hit on Big Paulie because Paulies own capos hated him due to him constantly increasing the kick-back amount to Paul. If Gotti had not done it, another capo would have. Tony was not pulling a Big Paulie so there would be zero support at that point for anyone to stage a coup except for possibly Sil and we all know how Sil handled the top spot the short time he had it. In fact, the only one capable of taking over as Boss of NJ was Ralphie. Ralphie may have been a psycho but he was respected and was the smartest guy in the room. I think that's why Tony instinctively hated Ralphie as he knew Ralphie was the only guy who could take over and affectively lead the DeMeo Family.

That wouldn't have worked. Ritchie had a chip on his shoulder when he came out of prison. He was short sighted in business dealings and basically wanted it fast and now to make up for his ten years in jail. He wasn't really respected by the guys who didn't like his attitude and didn't really know him very well since he had been away. He also had little man syndrome. He was a short guy but wanted to fight everyone and show how tough he was all of the time. He thought everyone in the family "owed him respect" because he was old school and did his time like a man. He was a captain at best. I couldn't see him at the negotiating table with Carmine and Johnny Sack.

Richie Aprile had a bigger crew than the unmade associates you just mostly named. Richie had Vito who was made, Gene Pontacorvo who was almost a made man, Donny K, Jackie Jr. and his group of wannabes don't count. But he had other unnamed people too. Matt Bevalaqua and Sean Gismonte worked for Christopher but went rogue thinking Richie would take them.
