BUNDLING FIREWOOD TO SELL... IS IT WORTH IT?

Smaller sizes and quantities of most items brings in more dollars per unit on almost all things but it comes with a cost too...packaging, time and effort. Selling convenience can be very profitable but it is not for everyone...some times just because you can do a thing does not mean that you should! Maybe there is a niche that you can and want to fill...maybe not?

Chris, I feel the pain "dinkin" around, that's what I am famous for!!!! Hahaha! Bundles take lots of my time and effort. However it is the nitch I have in a really, really wooded area. I too have one wholesale customer I provide for and it gives me great pride when I walk in there and see my product going out the door! I also like the FACT when I deliver I get a check cut in my name that Day! What I have learned the last three summers is the honor system is not honored by everyone and my stand does get hit by shrink. That's my "dinkin" story and I'm rollin' with it. Merry Christmas!

Michigan here.. I find it relaxing to just chop wood. Would like to expand my collecting and chopping of wood into a few extra dollars as I can't burn all the wood I have now in a season. Most houses in my subdivision have fireplaces, firepits or both. I think once I have a hundred bundles made up I should put out a message to the neighbors for a $5 porch pickup option. If I time it right I will be ready in May. Would be fantastic way to get to know the neighbors on the other blocks. I could use the money to buy a better wood splitter to make even more bundles for the year 2026.

I feel your cold weather pain trying to wrap firewood. I wonder if anybody makes a cold weather stretch wrap. 🤔 You would think bundle wood would not sell this time of year. I was told to adjust the stretch wrap tension you tighten it until it breaks while wrapping and the turn it back 1 turn. I sell my .75 bundles for 5.00 each and the retailer gets 6.99 each and they don't have to touch it. I saw that Kwik Trip is selling their bundles @ 2 for 14.00. Good video!

Nice . I drove flatbed truck and sometimes the load would be plastic wrapped like that , to keep the plastic from being a long tail goin down the highway would just put a piece of tape to hold the end down !!

im not a math guy but i did sell bags one year to a local plant store. they bought quite a bit but when they asked me the next year i declined. when i did my math i made no more money when you account for the extra time it takes. i thought it was the same time to net profit as standard cords delivered

Thinking out loud, you switched from least expensive Pine to Mid priced Maple can you raise the bundle price, did you raise the bundle price since you last raised loose wood prices? $200 sounds good but could you have delivered 2 loose cords in the same amount of time $110X2 + $20 per cord for stacking =$260. how much for the bundler and power pack had you not received them for free.
