I hate to be "that guy", but as a former Destiny 2 addict, Bungie has had their "last chance" dozens of times. I was also in the spiral of "we're so back!" to "it's so over!" every season. I play Destiny for the story and the raids, and both having so much vaulted and mishandled content put me off of the company years. I don't think Bungie believed players when they said they'd quit after The Final Shape. All the toxic positivity AND negativity in the playerbase meant that the devs were always complacent, never were they worried about apathy until this massive wave of players left. I don't enjoy seeing the game die, but the company deserved to financially fizzle for a long time. Limitations breed creativity, and Bungie thought our time and money was endless. I have high hopes that someone, maybe even I, will be able to make a true spiritual successor to this game.

@@lucasLSDYeah, but FFXIV also tackles this differently. For D2 you NEED forsaken for the forsaken exotic. You’re forking over what, $10-12 just to be able to play with those guns? It was fine a couple years ago when Foraaken actually had a campaign, but all the story’s gone. You can play through FFXIV’s story from start to finish because they’ve kept everything. All the story is there, you don’t have to watch some other video explaining the lore behind the first expansions that are unplayable. With FFXIV, you also get a free trial that takes you through practically half a game. Sure it’s restrictive in certain aspects, but it’s just straight up better for the average player who’s interested in playing the game. Destiny has a ~$60 entry fee. You get like what, a couple strikes and pvp? And the intro missions to each expansion which makes no sense. It’s nice not paying for a subscription fee for D2, but at this point there’s so little to do that I would’ve rather them do so. Everything’s always so crowded and lively in FFXIV. They’re able to welcome new players. I don’t see that in D2 anywhere.

When they announced episodes i knew how this game was going to go down, quietly as it dies during the episodes while the microtransactions pay for marathon. After Season of the Deep i quit the game because i was done with the abyssmal year of lightfall, intending to come back for The Final Expansion's story and raid and nope out on a good note. Then helldivers released early next year and i came ot a realization about how games were supposed to EARN my time as opposed to force it using FearOfMissingOut. Yes, helldivers was going through some very rough problems in the last half a year but it still was a hell of a lot more fun than Destiny's URGENT grinding unless you want to miss out on things that genuinely don't matter and shouldn't have mattered to me at the time. I now have a very intense skepticism of video games that use looter shooter, microtransactions, and live service built into their service models, it's why even if i have heard good things from The First Decendant i refuse to play it in case in just turns into another Destiny. At least with helldivers i can literally quit the game for a year and probably come back no problem and not feel like i missed out on cool stuff to play, or new Warbonds with the new weapons, because they keep it all in the game. Destiny STILL HAS an unhealthy and malicious "Play me or ELSE!" business model that essentially is threatening you every step of the way with the failure to keep up with the game should you be gone for even 2 seasons, and they did do that. They nerfed just about every good exotic or weapon useable during Lightfall campaign like the Osteo Striga and the Forbearance to make sure that the only good things useable for the LEgendary campaign had to come from the last 3 seasons before the next expansion. And that's how Destiny ruined every live service looter game for me in the future, because now i will hate the idea of going into another Destiny just to go back to another abusive relationship with a developer studio that literally says "We run the risk of OVERDELIVERING". Any company that intentionally wants to give the player LESS CONTENT deserves to be another Concord in my opinion.

Combined with the sheer amount of FOMO with the constant threat of 'stop playing and you'll permanently miss crucial plot beats', it stopped being fun. It became an obligation. And while I don't mind when a game just boils down to 'go kill a thing', it starts to get insanely grating when it's the SAME thing in the SAME place over and over and over. When all the fun stuff happens in lore cards and offscreen audio cues. It's like if FF14 was 90% just 'go run Palace Of The Dead/Heaven On High/Eureka Orthos' and ONLY those for almost the ENTIRE related dlc, meanwhile the story tells this grand sprawling tale of amazing adventures that all the NPCs go on offscreen, that you never get to take part in, much less SEE. In Destiny 2 you're just the Space Janitor, and it's gotten PAINFULLY boring. IMO, nothing short of a full reset and mechanics overhaul is gonna fix anything. What's really sad was that D1 started shaky, but the Taken King and Rise of Iron really lifted the game up to what it was planned to be. But D1's biggest flaw was that they started turning towards a PvP focus - nothing could be as good in PvE in case it unbalanced PvP. And we saw that in D2 when all of the weapons were uniform. Yes, they finally undid that, but it still wasn't like how D1 did things. There was a lot more openness and freedom in D1. It played like an RPG, if a limited one. Guns were allowed to have more punch by design, not if there was a glitch to exploit (although, there _were_ glitches, like Pocket Infinity). If D2 had been like D1, but more, and with a greater distinction between PvE and PvP, it would have a wonderfully memorable success and the pinnacle of shooter RPGs. Instead, D2 plays like a mobile game made for PC. And that's such a shame, given what D1's story started building up to. D1's ultimate message was _"hope"._ D2's ultimate message was _"greed"._

Is there any goodwill left in the D2 community, at this juncture, for them to win back? Cuz outside of a few hardcore lifers, a majority of my friends who played Destiny back in the day are way beyond done with Bungie. They've moved on, and it's pretty much a guarantee they're not coming back. This could very well be the best move they ever made, but it won't matter much if no one is listening anymore. Speaking for myself, I was done with Destiny 2 when I read that Luke Smith said he wanted players to be "married to the game". Like... no. When Smith said that, I immediately filed divorce papers. The game was already demanding most of my free time in order to keep up with the content and stave off fomo. But then dude says he wants ALL of my time? No, no, no, NO. Emphatically no. Toxic, co-dependant relationships are a nightmare to break free of, but for the sake of one's health, break free of them one must

"Upgrade Resources" as they are currently in the game are relatively easy to acquire. With certain activities like GrandMaster strikes, you can farm up a comfortable stockpile of the most important upgrade mats in just a couple hours. Reward passes in the past have already included these upgrade materials, and some players like myself, sometimes have to delete the materials from our inventory or waste them on random armor just to pick them up from the pass because we are maxed out already.

I was considering getting final shape, but to see I had to buy the newest expansion to even see the rest of the story for an expansion that came out in 2 weeks was crazy to me. Needless to say, I didn’t get final shape. I wanted to, I still want to see the end of the journey I started, but I can’t do it. Can we also talk about how subclasses are locked behind expansions? I have played since D1 alpha had close to 10k hours on my account, flawless, raid titles, every exotic, bought all the EV items. The final straw for me was when they added SBMM back into the game before Lightfall. They basically screwed all their loyal PvP players and SBMM killed the pvp scene. Sold my account for almost $6000 Glad I abandoned ship right before everything went to hell. All I wanted to do was play it like WoW, do my raids and seasonal content for cool looking gear and appearances and titles to use in pvp to own people. They made tons of money from people like me and what a surprise that when you piss those people off your revenue drops dramatically. Don't feel sorry for them. They've been given so many chances and had lightning in a bottle twice and have squandered it both times. This patch cadence is literally back to the patch cadence that existed in Taken King, with a small DLC release and one balance patch 6 months later then the next DLC coming 6 months after that. Pathetic for a team that was almost at 700+ people who made hundreds of millions off Eververse and who got 3.6 BILLION dollars from Sony. Where did that money even go? So GOOD RIDDANCE let it die.

Everything between now and then is convoluted and disconnected from each other. Why should I come back and get invested in a story game that doesn't want me to experience it unless I pay for the moment then and there?
@houseflygames4 ай бұрын
About the two expansion per year, I think they would cost 25-35$ like they did with Warmind and Curse of Osiris. Base version 25, rewards pass version (Whatever else they also include) 30-35 dollars. And the remaining is reliant on microtransactions, after hopefully wanting people to spend money. Potentially, the brighter scenario, the good ending they want, is that it ends with many people from the Old Saga leaving, and drawing in people in the New Saga especially people who are New right now who missed a lot on the Old saga, they stated; because its non linear, everyone is on the same page in some way shape or form. Even if old players return or stick around. The bad scenario is that the Following epsiodes (2 and 3) are not that interesting or good (despite stating they are releasing all of the act1 story and content at launch, they are removing the weekly checklist feel in the remaing episodes in general), causing more people to leave before the future changes can happen. Ususally their middle seasons are better than the first, but its another we'll have to wait and see scenario.

I know its probably not happening any time soon, if at all, but the real only way I see Destiny returning to its glory days is by making a D3. Destiny 2 has lost too many players at this point, it has enough of a player base to stay alive for at least a few more years, but there is no hope of interesting new players at this point, those who would have been interested by this point have already tried it and just having two expansions every year isnt going to bring very many players back. An actual sequel to Destiny 2 would give everyone a chance to start fresh, maybe four to five years down the line from now. By that point I think people would be missing the universe and be open to a new game.

My one strand of hope is that leadership has finally realized years of vetoing dev experimentation for safe and formulaic content is why people started to leave in the first place. Ironically Lightfall's seasonal cadence has the most variety and content dense year Destiny has had since Forsaken. The problem is people were already burnt out going into Lightfall and the campaign was so horrendously bad that people quit then and there. While those that stayed were still fatigued to such an extent that the variety didn't have the impact it would've had if they started it 4yrs ago.

I cant imagine how many players simply dont get back into the game, because of this and the feeling that they got robbed of something they have paid for at some point.

One thing I'll say, just playing devils advocate: The Season Passes for Destiny 2 have *always* had upgrade materials. Legendary Shards (RIP), Masterwork Cores, Upgrade Modules, Glimmer etc., as well as armour and weapons, so the "Rewards pass", along with the Seasonal content being free to play, just tells me they're taking the existing passes and selling them on their own rather than as part of the Seasonal experience. I'm hesitantly optimistic about the plan for next year, but it's all going to hinge on pricing. I'm pretty much already checked out this year. Echoes' story was horrendously bad (the pacing slaughtered any sense of investment I had in it, and then the ending just made it all even worse. The change to model is whatever; the only time since D2 launched that the pricing/content model has stayed the same year-to-year was Witch Queen > Lightfall. Every other expansion has introduced some new change in what they're doing. D2 had 2 small expansion campaigns in Year 1, Curse of Osiris and Warmind. Forsaken introduced a seasonal model, with 3 seasons starting a few months after the expansion Shadowkeep introduced the "Expansion plus 4 seasons" model, while also having a seasons content be removed at the end of that season Beyond Light kept much of the same model, but seasonal content remained until the next expansion released. They also released the Bungie 30th anniversary pack at the end of the expansion Witch Queen carried on with Beyond Light's model, but added the lovely twist of a reprised raid, a "dungeon key" to access the two new dungeons. Lightfall remained the same Final Shape's model could have worked, but they needed to stick the landing on Echoes especially with how good Final Shape was. Instead we got a bland lump of a plot, delivered like a FedEx driver who thinks he's Kobe. I guess I'll just have to see what they charge for Apollo.

If I'm feeling nostalgic, I can never go back to season of the dawn and play through the corridors of time or the mission where we save Saint-14. It's just all gone, which makes me way less likely to go back. On the other hand, there's Warframe. I played it a ton for a while but took close to a 5 year break. I got back into it recently, and there's now nearly 5 years worth of new things to do. I can even replay all the old stuff from before I stopped playing if I want to. Sure, there were time-limited things I missed out on, but overall there's still so much that I can catch up on. Knowing that everything I missed would still be there when I came back is one of the main reasons I considered coming back to Warframe in the first place.

Either leaders are hamstrung by corporate idiocy, or they lack the spine to push back and fight for the good of the team, or they lack the skills to command a team of creatives on a long project timeline. It's really hard to do well, and the way games companies pay people... Motivation is going to be tough to generate. Hey bell, been a while, there’s a rumor going around that in a year and a half bungie as a company is not going to be around anymore due to the executives are apparently going to jump ship after they get marathon and the promised dlc for it out the door, the dividends for the Sony deal will be payed out and so most of the c suite are suspected to be jumping overboard with their golden parachutes. The leaker who put it out accurately predicted prismatic a week before the reveal. Leaked project payback which was an assumed destiny three but wasn’t, maybe, And in this same post as the executives leaks he warned about the second round of layoffs and that the performance of the final shape didn’t matter as the second round of layoffs were already set in stone about a month before the final shapes release. Keep in mind this is all a rumor and there is a lot that can happen between now and then but his leaking record is pretty either spot on or 70-80% accurate.

Rotating all older season content every expansion release is still one of the worst things they keep doing. When I take breaks I like to come back to a lot of content.

Aren't live service looter-shooters basically roguelites already; just with metaprogression dictated by the relentless demands of DAU/MAU and itemization by those of the cash shop; rather than being left to the game designers to tune for optimal fun?

Bungie's last last super duper mega super serious last chance. How long can they coast off Halo's success?

How many *"last chance"* are people going to give? They've already shown they don't care andd their PR doing their best to give out their countless *fake* apologies, which seems to work with some people.

Barring the issues with Bungie themselves, the problem with Destiny for me right now is that it's just stale. There are only so many hours I can spend doing the exact same thing year in and year out. I logged on today to try and continue the "episodic" quest. I ran one Nessus Battleground, and when the next step in the quest was "kill 100 Vex", I simply rolled my eyes, sighed, and quit to desktop. I'm tired of just doing the same thing over and over again for a tiny bit of story. There are some promising things they've talked about in this next roadmap, but I'm basically not holding my breath because Bungie has said time and again "we're listening", and we've seen no evidence that they actually are. There's no trust in Bungie's upper leadership, and it's heavily reflected in community sentiment right now. Including mine. I want to love playing Destiny, because I have very fond memories of playing it with friends. Of some of the best story beats I've encountered in video games. Some of the best gunplay in any first person shooter. But the repetitiveness has gotten more than old. And I'm simply tired. I'm gonna stand by and just see how this next big plan of theirs pans out. And I'm gonna hope for the best, but I'm not gonna be surprised if it ends up failing.

Couldnt care less about Destiny they just nerf every gun and remove paid content. I havent touched Destiny since the taken king came out because they nerf guns and the light level. Destiny 2 i quit before Forsaken because they killed Cayde-6 so im like nah im out and moved onto other games. The VoG was and is the best raid they ever did and they threw everything down the drain since then. You couldnt pay me to come back. I want a new Live service game that caters too me and doesn't nerf every patch or remove stuff I worked for. Sadly no live service games these days cater too me. I wanted a new division because they pulled the plug on TD2 not even a yr after it was out and removed and nerfed everything so i was like nah and left. Nobody wants to refarm gear every 2 weeks because devs dont know what to do. Heres to hoping a new live service game comes out i can actually care about and treats the playerbase/community right that is either an MMO or RPG FPS/TPS or something along those lines thats a looter shooter or even like Ashes comes out soon. Until then im stuck with 10+yr old games that i play along with indies
