If you read Crime and Punishment or know the summary- you’ll notice how fitting it is that they’re against each other. C&P tells you to *live* despite what you’ve done, because running away from it will only waste your life. While Dazai do a lot of suicide attempts because he think his life is not worth living and there’s no meaning to it. Their similarity and difference is both REDEMPTION. Dazai denied it and simply lived (that’s what the OG author failed to do though dazai is still extremely suicidal :

I love how Fyodor's ability is Crime and Punishment, which is one of my favorite novel I used to read. Given how he can kill people by simply touching them, I think his ability only works when someone tried to do something bad to Fyodor, as a "crime", and as a "punishment", he can kill them instantly.

But after that, he becomes overwhelmed with paranoia and guilt. I don't remember how much part does it have, but I think it was around six. Also, this was the only book written by Dostoevsky I've read, so I don't know what novel he wrote before. Also regarding your question on the novel's impact on Russian society, now I don't know what exact impact did the novel had, but I believe it was used for criminal psychology, so that they could understand the motives of the criminals.... or at least I think.
