Even nature tries to erase history. So nice of you to share your story of Gerhard and showing were he was during the war. Hearing about someone and learning about them would be emotional when actually seeing what they had shared. Maybe not in our lifetime but these coastal defense systems will be gone and maybe one day be found by divers exploring the area.

I think it's your most emotional video. You're doing such a useful and fantastic work with your children, and especially EE! What is particularly right in your "mission" is that you just give us testimonies of what the fate of these young people was! A lot of us now can't imagine how lucky we are, not to have to go fight so far away from home! It remembers me when i've been to the war sites of WWI near Verdun nearly 30 years ago, how intensely emotional it was for me! The current situation in the world makes me sad to see, how fragile freedom and peace are ... THANK YOU HH to perpetuate the remembrance of these soldiers, no matter who they fought for. Gerhard was only 17 at the time he came to the atlantic wall, and graveyards are full of so young fallen soldiers! May they rest in peace all.

Excellent video, as usual. My Uncle Gary (U.S. Army) was in the second wave at Omaha Beach, and my Father, Bill was in the Navy. They never sat me down and told me everything they experienced during WW II , but small story's of things that had happened when they were in the service would come out in conversations, especially when I was older, and in the service myself. I wish I had the forethought to ask them to write down their experiences, and video record a conversation of their deployments. It would have meant a lot to me to share their places in history with their grand children , great grand children, and future people who study history. I wish videos like this were around before they passed. They may, or may not have been able to watch them, but they'd be able to see how their places in history are interesting, and hopefully people can learn to not repeat the past. Again, thank you for sharing your findings and research. Take care. Semper Paratus

Did he happen to be a relative? You tell about him with such emotion. What a humbling experience to walk in the footsteps of someone who’s story you have heard and picture you have seen. It makes them and their sacrifices all the more real. I always go into places and ask “what if these walls could talk, what stories would they tell??” God bless these young men who served their country with honor! I’m from the United States and I absolutely love your videos. I stumbled upon them just this week and I am binge watching. Although I wasn’t born yet, I have a fascination with WWII and the greatness of that generation! ❤ Take Care!

Bang up job on the intro HH & EE. The control center bunker was rough but functional. What a good idea adding the protective entranceway. Was impressed with the running trench system. Wonder to what depth future history hunters will go when the bunkers are claimed by the ocean? Thanks for the reference pics as it helps put things into perspective. And most important the bunker that Gerhard served in. Would be extremely interested in seeing his reaction and hearing his war stories. Was relieved to see he lived a long life. Thanks for sharing this adventure HH and EE . Get better and stay safe. No more COVID monster.

Hey Guys That was an amazing area of the Atlantic wall! It's too bad mother nature's reclaiming it. But thanks to you and eagle eyes you're able to preserve video and document everything in its current state before like you said it disappears in the ocean. It's amazing for a soldier to go back to where he served and a nice touch in going to that very bunker where he was in his memory. I appreciate all the hard work you guys do even with your covid symptoms and another time when you had Lyme disease and then another time where you were just not feeling good because you had a cold and I just really respect that you go over and beyond despite what is going on with your health. We can never repay you for all that you do! Please be safe and be well! All the best Dan! 🇺🇸

My eyes couldn't help but tear up looking at the picture of young 17 yr old Gerhard in uniform. When most boys his age would be planning fun times with his friends, family, and going to school he was preparing for battle. I am thinking that is exactly how the Russian soldiers feel today. No choice as they are also conscripted. The difference today is we have access to news and media so we can get the humanistic side and an idea of their fears and struggles. A better understanding. He was one of the lucky ones. RIP Gerhard - Respect. HH and EE you were real soldiers braving the elements after EE just over the OMICRON and you HH still ill with it. Thank you so much for taking us there and sharing that most heartfelt story of a young German soldier and his return to the actual Regelbau 501 he served in. Hope you feel better soon HH.

The story of Gerhardt brings home the reality of war. A young man of seventeen serving far away from home lives to tell the tale and even return to his bunker and share details. I get sentimental on stories like this. Basically Gerhardt was a kid who got drafted into the war. Probably didn't want to be there but had to be. He was made to fight. Since I fought in Vietnam, I look at war more differently than others. I volunteered and did my duty. Good job.

Surely the Atlantic Wall is a huge line of defense and still defends, but now against the sea. Brave that despite your corona you are still in the field. You have written another piece of history.

This area is familiar. I believe HH may have been here before on another video. I remember finding this location using Google maps and seeing the bunkers, although now sadly I have forgotten the location.
