As an Aussie, I never really think about how our slang sounds to foreigners, because to us, that's normal. But seeing people try and decipher our language is quite entertaining. The only one I didn't agree on in that vid, is nuddy. Maybe some parts of Australia say it that way, but I've always said 'starkers'.

"What do you call burger king?" "burger king" Incorrect. In a most of the country, we call it Hungry Jack's. 'cos someone else already trademarked the burger king name.
@graybonesau2 жыл бұрын
she's not wrong though, you would still call burger king 'burger king'. an australian wouldn't go to the usa and ask 'can we go to hungry jacks?'

There is a joke... not sure where it started... but it's basically someone (from another country) says they speak English and the reply is "ah yes the common language that divides us." You are right the slang makes up a "large" part of each countries English and it really does confuse "foreigners" that speak "the same" language. Aussie maybe more than most. Though Canadians get words from English, French, Indigenous languages, and some from other cultures that immigrated here so... we're not too far behind in confusing outsiders.
