I get Ash being defensive or thinking Conan is taking the piss out of people with odd interests. I think he’s genuinely curious but these are small segments and I’m pretty sure everyone knows he’s there to fool around

I was at the Civil War show at the North Carolina State Capitol grounds and the Sargent shouted out in a deep southern accent "that carriage yonder has lost it's horses", referring to a big SUV making loud noises nearby the scene. "Why doth thou talk into that skinny book?" said a lady in full yellow southern belle dress to a lady on her smartphone. Naturally we all try to trip them up but apparently they rehearse the situations and are always ready for you. I was in Gettysburg once for another authentic scene and a visitor had a urgent medical event, causing a real modern ambulance to pull up with all the flashing lights and annoying sirens. I took a pic of the reenactors looking startled even terrified of such a massive flashing thing charging into their battle. They stayed in character and some ran and hid! Yes, that is how troops back then would have reacted. They nailed it.

One of the first things John Oliver did for the daily show when he came to America was cover a Civil War reenactment like this. He fell on his face and broke his nose immediately.

Before man-made materials wool was what armies used. Yeah they were hot but they also wicked away the moisture to the surface. You could sweat through them and that helped you cool off.

Take your kids to a reenactment ! No matter the era being reenacted. I think they will love it ... and they might even learn some history.

There are KZbin videos where people each authentic food from past ages, for a day, week, or even longer. As Ash said, potatoes, tomatoes, corn, chocolate, chili peppers, vanilla, avocado, papaya, etc all come from the Americas.

For some reason you can mail order black powder rifles and revolvers with no sort of background checks. I grew up with my dad melting lead for those and hand loading 357, 30-30 whatever. MURICA
