Bunny Update - Cora's HUGE Litter of Baby Bunnies!

Largest litter of baby bunnies that I've ever had! Cora is a Holland lop, and although she is a false dwarf Holland and big girl, she gave birth to 7 babies AND has nursed them all on her own. A typical Holland lop litter is about 2-3 babies, with first litters often being stillborn or small, but Cora is a rockstar mama!
What color is my rabbit? Bunny color genetics is also discussed, including the genotypes of opal, cream, blue tort, and blue rabbits and tips on how to identify these rabbit colors.

I watch your channel frequently. Your lops are absolutely beautiful. I have 5 bunnies and two are Holland lops (unfortunately had to put one of lops to sleep this this week due to cancer..my beautiful Carmel - cream and white - he was 8 years old). It broke my heart and the following day had to put my cat, Cuddles, to sleep as well..cancer...and she was wonderful with rabbits...would never hurt them. My daughter was in 4H and this is reason for having so many bunnies, as she showed them. Now she is grown and out of house and they are cared for by me (of course) and I love every one of them. One rabbit, named Carson, actually lives in my kitchen. I trained him to go potty in cat litter box. Another bunny is solid black Netherland dwarf...she is so tiny and adorable..her name is Jinxie. Then we have Teddy, Bandita and Mochachino ( he is other lop). Something about lops their demeanor and they are just so sweet and friendly..at least mine always have been. God Bless

Thank you. :) Since the sire (father) is a true dwarf and has one copy of the dwarf gene but the dam (Cora) has no copies, half of the babies should receive the dwarf gene and be true dwarf Hollands and half should be false dwarfs without the dwarf gene. When you breed two true dwarf Hollands, about a quarter would receive two dwarf genes and be peanuts, which cannot survive. That's another reason why I like false dwarf/true dwarf pairings.

Oh my goodness...they are so cute. I adopted a mini lop about 7 months ago is so rewarding when they give you kisses and let you pet them. Mine doesn’t like to be picked up but still is so sweet to have him.

Oh how I miss have some bunny to love! Years ago I raised all types - New Zealand Whites, Dutch, Flemish Giants, and Mini Lops. Usually they were rabbits other people did not want any more, so I took the bunnies and gave them loving furever homes. I never bred them, however . . . I was busy enough just taking care of them, and playing with them every day after work. Maybe some day I will have a bunny to love again . . . Thank you for the genetics lesson and the description of the colouring. I now know that what gives my holland lop his little ring around the nose is the agouti (spelling?) gene. He has all of the characteristics that you described. Those babies are so adorable - I love seeing these updates.

Well, otter colors (black otter, blue otter, chocolate otter, lilac otter) have similar nose/eye rings but also have tan markings. It is complicated. Your bunny likely is an agouti color.
