It could happen, but it would require some unique circumstances and perhaps a judgment call by the score keeper. In 2015 WS, KC player hit an inside the park HR without an error. It happened because the Mets outfielder made a try to field a difficult fly ball that then deflected off his glove to roll some distance away from any fielder. KC player made it home without a play. It was debatable whether it was an error by the outfielder or not, but it was reasonable to say no. If there was a scenario where a collision happened between two infielders trying to catch a bloop bunt (say, 3rd and ss) knocking them both out of the play, and the ball then rolls into shallow left field, and the outfielders are deep for whatever reason, or perhaps not paying enough attention. The 2nd baseman was holding 2nd for a possible play there, and the pitcher chases the ball rather than holding 3rd. The batter rounds 3rd at full speed as the outfielder picks up the ball and throws home. The ball is not well thrown enough and draws the catcher off the plate, and the batter beats the catcher's desperate lunge.

They were likely taught at some point along the way that _any_ throw to first base the RF should be moving quickly to the line, but especially for tough plays at 3B where the throw angle makes backing up that much more important. But the quality of arms in the IF at the pro level, and getting lazy, usually means throws to 1st will be caught, so why exert energy.

In 1972, I saw one of these in person in a game at Shea Stadium. Bud Harrelson laid down a bunt, it got thrown away, and he ended up coming all the way around to score. Game vs. the Dodgers. There was a runner on base, so two or three errors on the play (I'm not sure), two runs scored and no RBI's. Harrelson only hit about seven or eight actual HR's in his whole career, so maybe that should count as one, though obviously it doesn't.

@@johnboehmer6683 I thought Dennis was correct but didn't want to defend him because of my own perception of my baseball knowledge. So, first clip is from a game on September 23, 2017. Dozier is the man that laid down the bunt in the 1st inning. Scoring reads for this AB, "Dozier reached on bunt single to third, Dozier scored on throwing error by third baseman Candelario." Also, the only HR listed in the box score for the Twins that day reads, "Granite (1, 8th inning off Hardy 2 on, 2 Out)". Nothing about Dozier. In most of these, the ball is following the runner. Because of the bad throw to (or bad catch at) first, an error makes getting to third easy. Home only requires a missed catch. The weird one is the NPB pay from Japan because the ball is going ~toward~ where the runners are going, not coming from behind.

if you blow the throw to first just throw the ball into the stands once its recovered to stop the runner and only allow a +1 base

I had the chance of doing this when I played little league. The sad part is my third base coach held me at 3rd when it was overthrown. I know I could've made it too

I remember seeing a legitimate check swing home run. The batter half swung and it went into short right field. The right fielder dove to catch it and never touched it and the ball rolled into deep right field

I knew going in this was going to be a bunch of errors. Having said that, it would have been cool if the guy on the Rays had lightning strike as he was heading for home, like "The Natural"

I wouldn't call those "home runs" more like bunt single and throwing errors by the infield and outfield.

Reminds me of my only "home run" in little league...... single up the middle that went through the center fielder's legs.

I know they made it round to home on bunts, but in the stats, was it an in the park run, or is it he got home on two throwing errors, to first, then again to third base.

Can you do a video about true bunt extra base hits? No throwing errors and the bunt true doubles. And have there been any true bunt triples?

I've seen a double. It was when teams first started doing extreme pull shifts and a lefty slapped a bunt down the left field line. No one was anywhere close to the ball. Wish I could remember who it was. Would have been mid to late 90s.

All these clips are like: bunts to make it a tough play: Pitcher throws it away: right fielder gets it and throws it to third and misses: runner scores

This reminds me of baseball stimulator 1000 on Nintendo. I would fill my lead off hitter up with maximum speed, so he could bunt and by the time they got to the ball he would had already circle the base and be at home.
