It is DEFINITELY pronounced PUM-melo which I learned by spending ten months on a cruise ship, the Yankee Trader, checking out fruit markets the world over, always trying out local fruits, decades ago, and BTW the Tahitian Pummelo, called grapefruit by local french polynesians or rather"pamplemousse", french word for grapefruit and BTW, BEST PUMMELO IN WORLD HANDS DOWN, a shockingly declicious fruit, IMHO, best citrus fruit I have ever tasted and which I've just T-budded from scion wood I got from PPCC near where I live, put buds on a few weeks ago on a thirty-year old seedling from some forgotten Pummelo seed I cannot remember where I got, but which stubbornly took 25 years to flower and produce simply awful, gnarly inedible fruit, which, alas, is normal enough for a seedling , of course. Hope springs eternal, on the other hand. You have, they say, some vastly remote chance of producing, after eager decades, a so called super-seedling. Good luck with that! Now let's see if the Tahitian buds take and, thereafter, if it can produce fruit ANYTHING like Tahiti does in our semi tropical desert like climate here in Lake Balboa, California, where, BTW, Navel Oranges do better than just about anywhere else, so there's that hope to hang on to.

This reminds me of a Chinese pomelo eaten during the moon festival, it's taller than the buntan but not as big as a regular pomelo. I do like the Chinese pomelos because they're sweeter than what we have here in Canada.

A little more research after making this video and I believe that Buntan and Pomelo are actually the same species. This is a special cultivar only cultivated in a small area of Japan.

I believe you're correct. I did a bit of research too and found the Citrus Pages where they named all types of pomelos. Amazing!

In Taiwan we eat a bell-shaped cultivar around midautumn festival. We always peel off the entire pith with hand. The key is to start from the middle of the fruit.

Hi! I just found your channel and I've been watching your videos. Have you ever had Hala fruit? I'm curious about it and I haven't seen anyone review it.
@WeirdExplorer8 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I haven't had hala fruit yet. I've seen it growing, but wasn't able to try it.

I honestly wonder what would be cheaper fruit foods if you want to live there for a bit. Would it be more oriented toward bottled juice?

I've found pomelos for $1.50 in the US, but they were small and had thick pith. Like you said they're usually $4, but it's not too uncommon to find massive ones with thin pith so they can be a better deal than grapefruit. Also what is a fair price for a cherimoya in the US? I've seen them for $8, but that seems like way too much. Thanks for another entertaining video.

I've seen cherimoyas as low as $5/lb in NYC, usually at Asian super markets.

You should do a review on Brazilian fruits.

I'll be going to Bolivia next month. Its not Brazil... but they have a lot of the same exotic fruit available there.

I can't wait. I love Japan, but its fruit seems to be limited only to citrus and I'm waiting on more "odd" fruits.

Why is fruit in Japan so expensive?
