Burbot, Eelpout, Lawyer --- Catch, Clean, Cook, Eat!!!

Lake Winnebago really isn't known for its pout but each year around this time, they frequent the shallow spawning locations and a few anglers are there waiting for them. This year, we were!
Something new for the channel as we catch, clean, cook and eat this awesome delicacy! If you cook or clean them different, drop a comment below as this is certainly a species that needs some more attention! Around those same regards, lawyers on our system are not huge in numbers. Please think twice about keeping a big female! Usually, if a big female is seen, some great eating males are certainly not far behind.

Upper red in Minnesota has a tournament just for the burbot, Eelpout fest in late February. Looks like a lot of fun, fun to catch. Always wanted to have a good fish boil out on the ice in some more fair weather conditions. Pretty easy to clean. Another way to boil is using all sprite or a 50/50 with water is popular too.

In New England, they're called Cusk. I call it Poor Man's Haddock. Flakes just like it. Best fish for an ol fish fry! Don't know if you use traps, but they're so easy to set up for cusk.

Great video! I got into a mess of them on Poygan of all places. First time ever catching them. Not going to lie it freaked me out at first and I popped the hook out with a pliers and never touched it. 😂

Man y’all need some Louisiana crab boil or some zatarans On that lol looks good but bland . We actually cook a fish down here called sheepshead like that boiled in crab boil then with butter tastes like crab or lobster. Sheep head are good any way you cook them though (saltwater sheep head in the porgy family not the one people up north call sheep head that’s like fresh water drum )

They aren't eel pout. Eel pout are salt water fish that look similar from the europe area.

These guys are tiny compared to what others are catching. It there a size limit as to how large you can take? Because these other guys on KZbin are catching fish twice that size.
