He was an honest man,
He was father , damn
He had a son, he had a daughter,
He had a problem and
Addiction was always part of him,
-Lord knows he was fighting that,
-most people don't understand
-that addiction will fight you back
-and you can be strong
-hell, He was strong
-he showed no pain
He just smiled all along,
Wish he'da picked up the phone,
When he felt all alone
If he'da called me that night, I know he would not be gone,
Well so long my friend
He was sober for the first time in a long time
And he said to me he finally felt alive again
It's about time
An everyone's proud time
But the one time, he decided to go out again
was his last time,
Cause on that night,
I got the call telling me I just lost my friend
And just one time,
Took you from us, I
Wish i could hear you say you felt alive again
I need to talk to the people
Yea they need to know what it is
My friend was a superhero
At least that's what he was to his kids
Yea He was a hell of a man
Would do anything for his friends
He Never backed down, nor ran from nothing
Always stood and fought till the end, awe yea
And I know deep down that you've been trying to change
While these people always judge you could never feel your pain
---And they'll never know what it really takes
To take addiction out before it goes the other way
He was sober for the first time in a long time
And he said to me he finally felt alive again
It's about time
An everyone's proud time
But the one time, he decided to go out again
was his last time,
Cause on that night,
I got the call telling me I just lost my friend
And just one time,
Took you from us, I
Wish i could hear you say you felt alive again

Ironic indeed! While not exactly on their anniversary, but 7/2 is my brothers 2 year and 7/14 is his fiance 1 year due to addiction too. They leave behind a now 7 year old son. Addiction is so messed up and so hard to understand when you don't have those issues. Me and my Mrs are the godparents and are looking to step in to raise him. I hope you are handling it as well as you can. I see how my parents and her dad are handling the loss of their child and its mad crazy. Stay strong! This song is touching considering the timing.

Thank you, Burden, for this excellent song. My family was damn near destroyed by addiction to alcohol and pills. I was saved by God's love and mercy. I leaned on him day and night, and he pulled me out of that horrible struggle. It's been 3 yrs... Amen!!! Now, I'm praying for my son, who is still in that awful place. I'm going to play this song for him today. ❤

Man bro, I just lost my youngest son February 4th he was 24 years young about to turn 25 had everything going for him just bought a house with his fiancé was going to get married this summer. He has always struggled with addiction but always came back stronger each time. I’m writing this just to say thank you. Joey passed away thinking that he was snorting coke but it was pure fentanyl. Yup right in the dealers front yard. I’m so hurt as a man to lose him 😢 PS this took place in Chatt, Mire, Florida. And the dirt bag dealer is still walking around freely. Burden my sons and I have always bumped your stuff since the beginning thank you for this . God bless

Sorry for your loss brother. I can’t even imagine. Partly because I’ve always been the addict not the one trying to stop me ( if that makes sense ) God has delivered me many times and saved me. Now I’m only taking suboxone but I can’t seem to make the jump and get off that. I’m afraid that I will go backwards. I’ll be praying for you and your family. Again so sorry for your loss.

Lost my mom to addiction.. my dad's in a rehab and he's 59 or 60 years old.. I FINALLY quit drinking become a born-again Christian, stop smoking green except sometimes before bed. I hope I stay on this road till I meet my maker. I'll play this for my dad. Man I really miss the "old" him lately. This songs instrumental and the verse leading into the chorus are so well put together.. makes me want to write a cpl 16 bar verses about my best friend wrecking on the way to my house and dying at 17. I looked at it like it was my fault for years. I've dealt with this problem of losing friends to their addictions ALOT. I wrote songs to get my mom to stop doing drugs. I call one dear Mama and the rest are random verses. Didn't work. Tried to video it a few years ago but couldn't remember all the words. I need criticism so I put what I could remember of my version of Dear Mama in my KZbin videos. But I haven't received many views in the last cpl years. If ANYBODY goes and checks it out PLEASE leave a comment, and be brutally honest if its ok rhyme's or NOT. It's a sadly true story begging my mother to stop before she overdosed. I wrote the song pleading with her to stop, i even rapped it for her countless times but it didn't help. It's in my tik Tok videos also. Any input is greatly appreciated. And just wanted to say thanks AGAIN for putting this whole song out, THANK YOU Burden!!!👍🏼 man I'm sorry for your loss. He sounded like an awesome guy. I'll pray for his family.🙏

I have never seen you in person, or spoken to u via anything but I just wanted to tell you I'm so proud of you and spreading the world of addiction. it's so real and most people don't want to even talk about it let alone. I just listened to this song in full. It completely broke me down. My baby brother was sober for years. Then on June 2nd last year, he got into an argument with his wife and decided to go get a bottle of Crown. I begged him to pull over and let me come get him or to come to my house and talk to me. I just desperately wanted to get him off of the road. totalled his truck about a quarter of a mile past my driveway that night. He was life-flighted to LSU in Shreveport (the closest Level 1 Trauma ER to us.) They really tried to save him. He was in surgery for 14 hours, but his body was simply too broken. He showed no brain activity, he was only being kept alive by machines. Exactly 1 week later, on June 9th, we made the excruciating decision to let him go. He would not have wanted to live that way. He took his very last breath at 1:43pm that day. God, I still miss him So Much. 😢

Damn this song speaks volumes. I lost my 12yr old a few years back. He thought i was his hero but at his funeral he had over 1200 people show up. Turns out that my son was my hero.

Thank you for this heartfelt relatable song... So many people experience addiction and loss because of it, myself included. Keep the songs coming. Love all that you do, Burden. ❤

Burden! Thanks so much for this song. It means so much that you spread the awareness. I’ve now been clean as of May, for 10 years. I had a horribly bad narcotics addiction in high school. No one can understand how bad things can get till it gets this bad. I was dope sick one night when my gf at the time told me “let’s go to this party”. I was supposed to be driving but I couldn’t force myself to get out bed. The five of my friends in that car that night got hit by a drunk driver that was doing 107 in a 55. All 6 people involved died. It was at that point I realized I needed help. Because I would’ve taken a different route that took us to the other side of town that night. I still feel the shame as I watched my gfs light in her eyes go dim. 😢

Beautiful track with an important story and message. I can relate this, both through addiction & the souls of those we’ve lost over the yrs, to overdose, suicide, etc. Thank you Burden 🙏

Such an amazing song. Sadly, I don't know anyone who hasn't been touched by addiction one way or another. Let's continue to look out for one another. Much love!❤

This songs as real as it gets , very relatable in many ways & genuine . I lost many people to addiction, including my boyfriend who was the love of my life & its made me hate drugs soo much. I've been clean myself for many years, from all drugs since 2012 & from heroin since 2007. Its the best decisions I've ever made ❤! Life is wayyyy better drug free. Just gotta do the hard work to get yourself to a better stronger & healthier place.

Hey Burden, I'm not much for alcohol but, my dad drank so much when I was a kid. I guess he was just going through so much and didn't know how to handle certain things. I didn't understand certain things when I was 5 or 6 years old. He would take me across the street and go to the bar smoke and drank. I would have a glass of coke cola ,he would have his beer. He died of a heart attack when I was 10. One hour after Christmas. He never listened to the doctors about stopping.. If I was smart back at the age, would he listen to me.Or would he continue to do what he did. After leaving the cemetery I always cry so much. Thanks for a wonderful video and song. That's why I don't drink or smoke.

Brings a lot of old memories of living with addiction. Seen this same thing happen to a couple friends. Got sober then went out and used, unfortunately that one choice they make in desperation was their last. Another amazing song by Burden.
