If these guys worked on their running form, they would run faster using less energy. That said, I'm impressed that they can run 6 minutes per mile and then go directly into heavy lifting. And that was only one day out of a three day competition. Makes me think I need to incorporate some CrossFit into my run workouts.

+The Guru Considering this was more than 2 years ago, I'm sure these athletes have worked on their running form since then.
@donriffel80059 жыл бұрын
You are probably right because run technique is more front & center now than it was a couple years ago.
@thechaddad16099 жыл бұрын
+The Guru Usually after the games, the athletes will go home and work on whatever skill they were weak on at the games. I remember after The Pool event in 2013 the athletes had to go home and practicing swimming. It's a good thing too because in 2014 they had a beach event that included over 1000 yards of swimming. The positive result of that is this desire to add a new skill or master a new skill is transferred throughout the entire Crossfit community. You should definitely throw some Crossfit into your routine. It will really improve your work capacity!

Absolutely adding CrossFit to my routine to be more athletic and an even faster runner. It's what drew me to the video in the first place. In my 50's, I can run about 6:30 pace in a 5K. Hoping to smash that pace in the coming year.

Every athlete at every level will benefit from honing their skills and constantly working on technique. I know I'm doing videos to see where I need to improve.

The workouts are always skewed towards strength. Not saying it's necessarily bad, I guess it just depends on how you define "fitness".
@thechaddad16099 жыл бұрын
+Postermaestro That skew changes from year to year. Which is good because it keeps the athletes on their toes.
@camerongray77675 жыл бұрын
Yeah well CrossFit it stills very new sport, as the years progress, the games will reveil weaknesses in fitness of the athletes and slowly implement more of those components as the years progress

For me, the problem with the title of " the fittest man on earth" is that focusses too much on weight lifting and power. As great as Rich and Matt are, it seems rather dubious that guys who are just average amount of strength for endurance end up winning the title. I think the event will benefit tremendously with more balanced challenges.

***** lol do you see how much weight these guys are pulling? Lolz what i was saying is that if crossfit guy and me were to race ill be faster but that doesnt translate well when i have to pull something 2 times my body weight. Yes most of these events are strength based but you need lots of stamina

Which one is more brutal, CrossFit or Iron Man?
@orangafricano84249 жыл бұрын
Noel Mulkey why is iron man= fit?
@donriffel80059 жыл бұрын
+Tianyi Chen : Both are brutal. For overall fitness, I'd say CrossFit. For overall endurance, I'd say Ironman. Here's something to think about. Several CrossFit athletes have competed in IronMan competitions and have done quite well. But not many, if any, IronMan athletes have (or can) complete in a CrossFit competition. Take IronMan athlete Ryan Hall for example. He would probably finish the 2.1 mile part of the Burden Run about 3 1/2 minutes in front of the CrossFitter's, but most likely would not be able to pick up the almost 500 lb pig flip directly afterward. I'm an endurance runner, not CrossFitter, but was very impressed that these guys were able to run 6 minutes per mile and then go directly into heavy lifting....and this was not the first day of grueling competition. I'm weak compared to these guys.
@thechaddad16099 жыл бұрын
+Noel Mulkey No, but they would do well. Fitness isn't just endurance. Fitness includes: Cardio Endurance, Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy (you could add pain threshold too but that's difficult to measure). How does an Iron Man test strength, flexibility, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy? It tests cardio/respiratory endurance, stamina and power (to a degree), but you can't use it as a definition of fitness because it doesn't test all of the metrics that define fitness. I'm not saying Iron Mans are inferior or easier. That would be a ridiculous statement. People train for years to endure those 8 hours of physical pain. But it isn't a complete definition of fitness because it leaves out important components to human physiology.

Read more closely, it says he would finish about 3 1/2 minutes in front of Crossfitter's in a 2.1 mile race. Made my guestimate based on past runs times of each.
